The Gaggia Velasca Prestige (RI8263/01) is a compact Italian-made bean-to-cup machine with a stainless-steel front, a 10-step ceramic grinder and an integrated milk carafe for one-touch cappuccino. Owners mostly praise the rich, hot coffee, the simple push-button operation and Gaggia UK's after-sales support. The trade-offs are a short drink menu with no latte macchiato button, a basic LCD interface, low 70–110 mm cup clearance, a stiff water tank and carafe cleaning that some find fiddly. A few owners find black coffee weak. It suits espresso and cappuccino drinkers who want a narrow machine with simple controls, rather than buyers after many speciality drinks or tall latte glasses. It is not sold by the big UK chains, so buying from an authorised UK seller secures the UK plug and the 5-year warranty. Long-term reliability evidence is limited to individual owner reports.
Before you buy
What the features mean in everyday use.
Milk drinks come from an integrated 0.5 l carafe that froths the milk twice and can go in the fridge. Cappuccino and frothed milk are one-touch. There is no steam wand; the non-Prestige Velasca has the Pannarello wand instead.
The ceramic grinder has 10 settings, plus 5 Optiaroma dose levels, 3 temperature levels, 3 pre-infusion levels, adjustable coffee and milk lengths and a ground-coffee bypass.
The drink menu is short: espresso, espresso lungo, cappuccino, frothed milk, baby cappuccino and hot water. There is no dedicated latte macchiato, flat white or americano button.
The coffee spout adjusts from 70 to 110 mm, which limits tall glasses. Independent reviews flag the low cup clearance.
It is compact at 25.6 cm wide, 34 cm high and 44 cm deep, weighs 9.4 kg, and has a 1.5 l front-loading water tank and a 300 g bean hopper.
Automatic rinsing and descaling, a one-button milk-circuit quick clean, a removable brew group washable under the tap, and AquaClean filter compatibility.
Most owners whose reviews were read praise the coffee as rich, strong and better than from previous machines, including former De'Longhi and Krups owners.
Owners find it simple to use day to day, with push-button drinks, easy personalisation and quick start-up.
Owners like the one-press cappuccino and say the milk is hot and well frothed. One reviewer uses soya milk successfully.
A UK owner calls cleaning the milk container fiddly and the weekly internal clean 'a bit of a faff'. Independent reviews also say the milk carafe needs regular disassembly.
One UK owner reports four years at about 10 drinks a day, needing only a shower disk replacement. Another reports six reliable years before a brew-unit/grounds-tray fault that Gaggia UK resolved over a video call. These are individual reports, not a reliability rate.
Two older UK Amazon reviews (2018, 2019) say the machine arrived as an EU model with a 2-pin plug. Coffee-Direct states its Gaggia machines are UK stock fitted with UK mains leads, and warns that cheaper imports may carry no UK warranty.
Independent English-language reviews describe the LCD-and-button interface as dated compared with newer colour-screen Gaggia models.
The model is not stocked by Currys, John Lewis or Argos, or found at Coffee Friend. In the UK it is sold through Gaggia's UK distributor (its own shop, Amazon and eBay) and through specialists such as Coffee-Direct, Caffè Italia and Mr Bean2Cup.
The official UK Gaggia warranty is 5 years (2 years parts and labour, 3 more years parts only), offered by Gaggia UK direct and by Coffee-Direct. Other retailers state 2 years (Caffè Italia) or 3 years for home use (Mr Bean2Cup).
RI8263/01 is the 230 V version with AquaClean filters. RI8263/47 is the US/Canada 120 V version, and its Amazon.co.uk import listing cannot be dispatched to UK addresses.

Which? has not tested the Velasca Prestige; its Gaggia coverage is limited to the Magenta Milk and Magenta Plus.
Views on price are mixed: one owner calls it well priced against pricier machines with similar features, another finds it dearer than similar rivals but worth it.
Several owners say the water tank is stiff and hard to pull out at first; one found it easier when pulled from the bottom.
A minority find the coffee weak or watery. One UK owner says black coffee seems weak despite grind changes and the ground-coffee option produced 'dirty water'. A Belgian reviewer found the espresso and foam watery.
Several owners praise Gaggia UK's support, including parts supply and remote troubleshooting by video call.

We treated ourselves to this machine 4 years ago now, It's still in great working order. It's used at least 10 times a day. Gaggia support were great when i needed a part and I have only just had to replace the shower disk. Have had coffee from other bean to cups, all Delongi, and this makes a much nicer coffee.

… For the Gaggia the basic espresso is rich, the americano well made and open to plenty of adjustment for your preferred style and, unlike the Krups, the latte/cappuccino is not just a good consistency but also piping hot. The downsides are that cleaning the milk container is fiddly and cleaning the innards every week or so is straightforward but a bit of a faff. …

Great machine. Makes excellent coffee. Is easy to use. "One-press Cappuccino" is great for my wife. Seems well made. There is a mistake in the manual about the degreasing process, but there are plenty of good videos on YouTube about maintenance. OK - as someone commented in a review - it does come with a European plug, by that's hardly as problem.

… Firstly the machine looks great and of good quality. I struggle to remove the water tank because it was stiff and I thought it would break. … It’s easy to “personalise L” the various drink options and the milk frother works exceptionally well. Drinks are also hot. 2 main issues are that 1) I drink black coffee with the occasional cappuccino- the black coffee always seems weak and muddy in colour. I’ve messed with the grind size, and use different beans but it doesn’t make much difference. 2) I can’t get the ground coffee option to work at all- it’s easy enough to select, but the coffee just comes out like dirty water. …
