The Melitta Barista SE (F830-003) is a mid-range bean-to-cup machine in black. It has a 270 g two-chamber bean container, a quiet conical steel grinder, 18 preset drinks, 4 user profiles and one-touch fresh-milk drinks, with a removable brew unit for cleaning. Compared with the Barista T Smart it drops app control. It suits households that want two bean types, such as regular and decaf, and plenty of personalisation without a smartphone app. Owners mainly praise the coffee, the dual hoppers and the quiet running. They criticise confusing menus and drink names, extras missing from the box, and messy cleaning cycles, and two early buyers received units that did not work. It is fairly large at 37 x 26 x 47 cm. In the UK it sells well below Melitta's own price, mainly through Harts of Stur, though guarantee terms differ by seller. Long-term reliability is not yet known.

What the features mean in everyday use.
The Barista SE is sold in the UK in black only, as model F830-003 with GTIN 4006508230945. It sells through Melitta UK, Harts of Stur, and Harts of Stur's marketplace listings on Amazon, Tesco and B&Q.
Melitta calls the Barista SE 'The Silent Expert' and advertises an extremely quiet conical steel grinder.
A 270 g dual-chamber 'Manual Bean Select' container holds two bean types, and there is also a ground-coffee chute. Melitta notes that after a manual switch, two to three cups may still contain the previous beans.
The machine offers 18 preset recipes and stores 4 'My Coffee' profiles. Strength and grind each have 5 levels, with 3 brew temperatures and 25–220 ml of water. It is operated through Touch & Slide controls and a TFT colour display.
The SE's UK spec table lists no app control. The closely related Barista T Smart and TS Smart list Connect App support.
A one-touch automatic fresh-milk system makes cappuccino, latte macchiato, milk foam and warm milk. An 'Easy Steam Cleaning' function rinses the milk parts, which can also be removed for washing. No milk container is listed.
The brewing unit is removable, and automatic cleaning and descaling programmes come with display prompts. Melitta says descaling is needed once a year if its water filter is used.
The machine measures 372 x 259 x 467 mm (H x W x D) and weighs about 10.4 kg. Gadgethead names the large size as a drawback for small kitchens.
Owners value the two separate bean chambers, especially households where one person drinks decaf.
Coffee quality is the most frequent praise. Owners describe excellent coffee and lovely cappuccino, and one finds it a big step up from an older Siemens machine.
Several owners find programming awkward and the menu nested. Others find drink names inconsistent or the options not shown on the front panel, so they rely on the manual, which one calls poor.
One UK owner finds the hoppers far too small and awkward to reach without clear space around and above the machine, and the maintenance demanding. Another finds the cleaning cycles messy unless a container is placed under the spout.
Melitta UK lists the machine at £549.99 (struck-through £699.99). Harts of Stur sells it directly for £389.00, and its marketplace listings on Tesco, B&Q and Amazon UK are £399.95–£419.95.
Which? has tested the Barista SE (first reviewed May 2025), but its score and verdict are only available to members.
Owners confirm the machine is quiet. One values the removable brew unit because it does not go mouldy, and another says the machine self-cleans after every cup.
The machine has a programmable energy-saving mode, automatic switch-off and a 0-watt switch.
Most owners who mention price see the machine as good value, including as a cheaper alternative to a dual-hopper or pricier model. One reviewer from Germany expected more for the money.
Two Harts of Stur buyers received a machine that did not work and needed a replacement; both say the replacement works well. The cause (manufacturing or transport) is not known.
Owners note that some extras are not in the box: no starter water filter, no cleaning brush, and one recommends buying a separate milk container. Another says the supplied milk tube works directly in any milk carton.
Owners find it easy to use and helpful, for example warning when the water is low. They enjoy the wide recipe choice, with one now making flat whites and cortados.

See the common points first, then read the original reviews yourself.
Summarised from the 20 reviews we read. A review can mention several points, so the theme counts can add up to more than 20.
Owners are mostly pleased. The most common praise is coffee quality: excellent coffee, lovely cappuccino and a big step up from older machines. Many bought it for the two bean chambers, typically regular and decaf. It is described as quiet, easy to use and helpful, with a wide recipe choice, and is seen as good value. The main complaints are usability and extras. Menus feel nested and drink names inconsistent, and some owners keep checking the manual. No water filter, cleaning brush or milk container comes in the box. Cleaning cycles can be messy, and one owner finds the hoppers small and hard to reach. Two buyers received a unit that did not work and needed a replacement, though both are happy with the replacement. Feedback mostly covers the first months, so long-term reliability is unclear.

Unfortunately the machine would not function (not sure whether this was a manufacturing fault or careless transportation) and so I had to return. There were no replacements available at HartsofStur so I had to order a replacement from elsewhere. I am very pleased with the quality of the replacement.

After years of using an older Siemens machine, the difference with this new setup is night and day. The first thing I noticed is just how quiet it is. More importantly, the coffee quality is a massive step up. The extraction is smoother, and the flavor is noticeably richer and less bitter than what I was getting before. Plus, the variety is incredible. With so many drink recipes pre-programmed, I’ve actually started experimenting with flat whites and cortados rather than just sticking to a standard black coffee. Highly recommended if you're looking to upgrade from an older bean-to-cup model

The first machine I got was faulty. After contacting HOS and sending evidence, they replaced the machine. The second machine works and makes a great coffee. Would def recommend it to anyone that needs a two hopper machine. You don’t need a separate milk caddy, just use the plastic tube that comes with the machine and pop it straight into your choice of milk. Also self cleans after every cup. Fab.

Excellent machine, replacement for a previous model, good choice of coffee recipe options, 2 different bean containers, produces hotter drinks than old machine which is good. Really like it.

Reasonable results, good froth on the milk options. Would be better if the different options were written on the front panel as I have to keep looking at the instruction manual ( which isn't great) to check what they are. I thought they would include at least one water filter to get you started but no! Quick to warm up and fairly easy to clean. It's my first ever coffee machine and I'm happy with my purchase overall.

My wife recently started drinking decaf so we started looking for a replacement coffee maker for our existing de Longhi and one that would have two bean hoppers so we could have bean to cup coffee for both of us instead of one of us having to make filter coffee. The Melitta had everything we wanted - and more. It does indeed have two bean compartments with a simple slider switch to alternate between them. In addition it is much more helpful than the de Longhi - e.g. telling you when the water is getting low. You can also pre-programme up to four coffee profiles and give them names. The quality of the coffee is excellent. The only area where I would like improvement is in the consistency of naming of the different styles of drink…

Excellent product, the coffee is lovely, its easy to use and has a good size water tank. You do need to buy the milk container separately for the best experience but it is not expensive. The cleaning cycles are a bit messy, so you do need to.use a container rather than let it go into the drip tray but these are minor inconveniences

At last, a dual bean hopper machine that doesn't cost you the price of a vital organ! So far so good, although easier programming would be better, and I've yet to discover a hot frothy milk only setting for making Hot Chocolate?

Finally someone realised that not everyone in the house wants exactly the same coffee beans (e.g. one hopper for caffeinated, one for decaf). Great at making coffee but (1) needs an unreasonable amount of maintenance, (2) the extras are expensive, (3) the hopper sizes are way too small (by a huge margin), and (4) the hoppers are awkward to access unless the unit has clear space all around and above it.

Where the information comes from, by type; each finding also links its own source.
This page is compiled from manufacturer, store, review and video sources; every piece of information links to the source it was read from. Technical values are as stated by the manufacturer or store; user experiences are summarised from the reviews read and do not apply to every unit. We do not test products ourselves.
