The Gaggia Cadorna Milk is a compact, Italian-made bean-to-cup machine. Its CAPPinCUP system makes one-touch cappuccino, latte macchiato, café au lait and frothed milk from a separate 0.5 l milk carafe. It has a ceramic grinder with 10 settings, dose and temperature control, 4 user profiles and a colour display, and its spout takes tall glasses. Owners mostly like how easy it is and how good the espresso tastes. The usual drawbacks are the small water tank, a drip tray that fills quickly and a stiff water tank. Milk froth can be inconsistent, and the milk tube needs regular cleaning. In the UK it is sold by Gaggia's own eBay store and specialist retailers rather than the big chains; the Amazon.co.uk listing is a 110 V import to avoid. Owner feedback so far comes from North American buyers, and there are no independent UK tests, so long-term reliability of the UK version is unproven.
Before you buy
What the features mean in everyday use.
Milk drinks use the CAPPinCUP one-touch system, which draws milk from a separate, freestanding 0.5 l external carafe; one-touch milk drinks are cappuccino, latte macchiato, café au lait and frothed milk.
The manufacturer lists 11 drinks (ristretto, espresso, espresso lungo, coffee, americano, cappuccino, latte macchiato, café au lait, frothed milk, hot water, over ice coffee) plus steam, though some of its headings and UK retailers say 10.
Ceramic grinder with 10 settings, 5 Optiaroma dose levels, 3 coffee temperature levels, adjustable coffee and milk length, 4 user profiles and memo function.
1.5 l water tank, 300 g bean hopper and a 10-puck grounds container: modest capacities that suit light-to-moderate household use.
15 bar pump, pre-infusion, stainless steel Quick Heat boiler, 230 V 50 Hz 1900 W; UK units have a 3-pin plug.
Compact footprint of 26 x 38 x 44 cm (W x H x D) and 9.3 kg, with a black ABS body.
Automatic rinsing, milk-circuit cleaning and descaling cycles; side-removable brew group; compatible with the Intenza+ water filter (one included).
Spout height adjusts from 70 mm (with the built-in espresso tray) to 155 mm, so tall latte glasses fit.
In the UK the RI9603/01 is sold by Gaggia UK Direct on eBay, specialist coffee retailers (Coffee Friend, Clumsy Goat) and a B&Q marketplace seller; John Lewis, Currys and Argos searches show no Cadorna models.
UK retailers state a 2-year Gaggia warranty (Coffee Friend, B&Q), while Clumsy Goat lists 3 years.
Many owners (of the North American version) praise the espresso and coffee, some comparing it favourably with coffee-shop drinks and with their previous machines.
Ease of set-up and everyday use is the most frequently praised point, along with saved favourites/user profiles and adjustable dose settings.
One owner reports nearly three years of heavy daily use with the machine still working like new and producing silky milk foam; most other reviews are from early ownership.
A minority of owners report out-of-box faults: a leak from the base, and grinders jammed by a loose hopper screw (Error 1), after which one machine stopped dispensing water with pre-ground coffee.
One owner reports that the plastic dome in the bean hopper can starve the grinder mid-brew, along with false 'pucks full' and mid-brew low-water messages.
Opinions on value are split: several owners call it good value, while others find such machines expensive.
The Amazon.co.uk listing for the Cadorna Milk is the US-spec RI9603/47 (110 V, 1400 W), flagged as an international product sold from abroad; it is not the UK 230 V version.
Applies to one variant
Because milk is drawn through an external tube into the CAPPinCUP unit, the milk parts need regular cleaning even with the automatic milk-circuit cycle; owners and a research-based review mention milk coagulating in the tube or blockages.
The Cadorna Milk sits in the middle of the Cadorna range: above the steam-wand Cadorna Style and below the Cadorna Prestige with integrated milk carafe.
Applies to the model family
A recurring complaint is that the small water tank needs frequent refilling and the drip tray/grounds drawer fills quickly and must be emptied often.
Several owners say the water tank is stiff or misaligned and needs a lot of force to remove and refit.
Milk results divide owners: some praise easy one-touch cappuccinos, others report weak or inconsistent froth, less milk than set, loud steaming, or wish they had chosen a steam wand.
A few owners find the espresso weak, watery or bitter even at the finest grind and strongest setting.

Summarised from the 70 reviews we read. A review can mention several points, so the theme counts can add up to more than 70.
No UK owner reviews exist yet; these views come from North American owners of the 110 V version, which is mechanically the same machine. Most like it, praising easy set-up, simple one-touch drinks, saved favourites and espresso they compare well with coffee shops. One-touch cappuccinos are popular, and some find the side milk container handy because it can go in the fridge. The most common complaints are practical: the small water tank needs frequent refilling and the drip tray fills quickly, and several owners say the tank is stiff or misaligned. Milk results divide opinion, with reports of weak or inconsistent froth, less milk than set, blockages in the tube and loud steaming. A few find the coffee weak. A small number had out-of-box faults: a leak, and grinders jammed by a loose screw. Opinions on value are split.

Really good machine, easy to set up and use. We really like the digital control panel and the ability to set up favorites. Milk drinks are simple to prepare and clean up is a breeze.

The machine works great and suggested beans are spot on. Th only complaint would be that it only makes small cups and no setting to increase cup volume. The quality and the mechanics of machine are super .

Our Gaggia Titanium was on the ropes after 12+ years of flawless service and we were afraid of being without a unit for even 1 week. My wife liked the idea of not frothing her own milk and decided on the Gaggia Cadorna Milk model. Took about a week to match our old unit, but it's just as good if not better than our old one. Would definitely buy it again.

We have a Gaggia Cadorna Prestige. Wanted to spend a little less for our second machine so went with the Cadorna milk. Milk system in the Prestige is much better. Tube from the milk container in requires more maintenance than the Prestige or else milk coagulates in the tube.

The water reservoir is misaligned/not form fitting so it requires far too much force to remove and reinsert. … We thought the new milk carafe style would be more convenient, however the volume of the steaming on this unit is very loud… We have to stop conversing while it steams milk …

Espresso machine with potential. While I originally liked the espresso machine: good looks, easy to use interface, good coffee bean grinding and good espresso. The milk frothing and milk delivery system is inadequate. I like to make 16~20 oz lattes. When I set the milk frothing system to deliver 8 oz of frothed milk, even after two (double) attempts, I ended with less than 4 oz of milk in my cup (should have been 16 oz of milk). …

This is our first semi automatic machine. We mainly brewed coffee with pour over prior. We really love this machine. The coffee and espresso is excellent for a semi automatic. But the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the milk. I can’t say the milk is up the same standards. We wish we went steam wand now. …

We really like this automatic espresso, coffee machine. Our main compliant would be it seems you really need to both fill the water tank (4-6 drinks per day) and empty the drip tray a lot - we now leave a 2 cup measuring cup under dispenser to catch water turn on and off but still a lot. But the espresso and coffee is outstanding. …

This being my first foray into the world of home espresso, the Gaggia Cadorna Milk is just fantastic. The ease of use is simply phenomenal. I would highly recommend the Gaggia Cadorna Milk to anyone looking for a relatively easy to use, economical, bean to cup espresso machine.

Loving my new espresso machine! The simplicity is beyond amazing and I think I’ve dialed in how to get a good quality Americano every morning. So much better than my prior pod setup! I do wish that I could see the water level and that it held more water, but those are minor gripes.

Water tank is very hard to remove. Overall some parts are flimsy. Milk frothing could be better for a machine that is called Milk.

Makes great cappaccinos when set to maximum milk volume. Milk clean-up much easier than carafe models. Also great espressos and coffees. But not perfect: black buttons are hard to read when not lit; drip tray fills up too fast; water tank and dregs drawer too small.

Just like Duraid said below, on the very first try my machine's grinder ground to a halt and I got the same Error 1 message. Noticing a missing screw, I found it lodged/bent in the grinding mechanism. I'm not an expert coffee machine repair person and should not have had to do this. Even worse, once I resolved this issue, the machine is now grinding beans but not dispensing water when using ground beans. …

I am very pleased with my new Cadorna Milk. It is full featured, easy to use, with a very intuitive user interface. It make excellent coffee drinks. I love the feature that allows up to 4 users to program their favorite drinks. The reason for no 5 stars is that on a small percentage of drinks it will not pour out the right amount of milk, or if I use the coffee doser (for decaf) only water will come out. Excellent value!

We just received our GaggIa milk. I am not a heavy coffee drinker but this really makes very good cappuccino drinks. I’m having several a day now. This is the second gaggia we have owned. This one is easy to use, love the favorites button, and it makes great coffee and lattes. Hope to try all of the drink options. Only caveat is that the water drawer is a bit difficult to open. We had to remove drip pan section then yank on bottom part of water tank to get it open. Otherwise cleaning is easy.
