The Melitta Caffeo Solo & Milk (E953-102) is a very slim, 20 cm wide bean-to-cup machine. It makes espresso and black coffee at one touch, with adjustable strength, temperature and cup size up to 220 ml, and can make two cups at once. Milk is frothed by hand with a panarello steam nozzle. Owners like the coffee and the simplicity but often find the nozzle weak at frothing. The small tank, hopper and drip tray need frequent attention. It is an older model that the main UK chains no longer stock; the only new unit found was a third-party Amazon listing. It suits black-coffee drinkers with little counter space; regular cappuccino drinkers are better served by an automatic milk system. No independent long-term durability data was found.

The only live UK offer for a new E953-102 is on Amazon.co.uk. It is sold by a third-party seller (MF ECOM NETWORK), with a separate delivery charge and 7–8 day dispatch. The black E953-101 listing is currently unavailable.
Argos, Currys and Lakeland do not list the E953, and PriceSpy shows no active listings. Coffee Friend UK shows both the new and refurbished E953-102 as out of stock, and eBay UK shows it as sold out.
The machine is very narrow: 200 mm wide, 325 mm high and 455 mm deep, weighing 8.1 kg. Owners mention its small footprint.
Milk is frothed or heated manually with a panarello steam nozzle controlled by a rotary regulator. There is no automatic milk-drink function. Drinks are black coffee and espresso, plus hot water and steam.
There are 3 strength, 3 temperature and 3 grind settings, stepless volume from 30 to 220 ml, and a double-cup mode for two coffees at once.
The water tank (1.2 l), bean container (125 g) and grounds container (10 portions) are small. Owners and an independent review mention frequent refilling and emptying.
Most UK owner reviews read praise the coffee ('sensational tasting coffee', 'fantastic coffee', 'make exceptional coffees'). A few rate it only 'ok'.
Owners describe one-button operation with no tamping or measuring, and say it is easy to set up and use.
Frothing is the most common complaint: several owners say the frother heats milk but will not froth it, or does not work at all. Coffeeness calls the steam wand 'rather flimsy and lacking in the pressure department'. A minority of owners found it works well once they got used to it.
The drip tray fills quickly with rinse water and needs daily emptying. Some owners find the periodic cleaning involved, while others find cleaning easy.
Two UK reviews report early problems: one says the machine 'Stopped working after 5 weeks', and another buyer says it did not work on receipt. These are individual reports, not a failure rate. No independent long-term durability data was found.
UK stock appears to be EU-spec. Coffee Friend supplies an EU plug with a UK conversion plug, and one Amazon UK buyer had to replace a European plug.
Two Amazon UK owners say the machine is loud when grinding or making a drink. Coffeeness calls it 'quite loud, but not unbearably so'.
Coffeeness says the Solo & Milk 'feels really solid and well-built', but the manual milk frother 'feels a bit like an afterthought'.
By default the machine switches off automatically after 30 minutes and enters energy-saving mode after 5 minutes. It has a pre-brew function.
This is an older model. The manual edition is from 2018, the UK Amazon reviews date from 2014 to 2019, and major UK chains no longer stock it. Melitta's Purista and the Solo & Perfect Milk are more widely sold.
Opinions on value are split. Some owners call it a bargain or a great price; others find it expensive for what it does.

User experience
See the common points first, then read the original reviews yourself.
Summarised from the 21 reviews we read. A review can mention several points, so the theme counts can add up to more than 21.
UK owners mostly like the coffee and the simplicity. One button gives fresh bean-to-cup coffee or espresso, strength and cup size are easy to set, and the slim body suits small kitchens. Several owners find daily upkeep straightforward. Milk is the weak point: several say the manual steam nozzle heats milk but will not make a proper froth, though a couple found it fine with practice. The drip tray fills quickly, some find periodic cleaning a chore, and it is called loud when grinding. Individual owners report a machine failing within weeks or not working on arrival, and some units come with an EU plug. Views on value are split between 'a bargain' and 'expensive for an ok machine'. Most reviews date from 2014–2020, so there is little recent long-term experience.
Summarised from 21 reviews; 1 reviews about delivery, packaging or the seller were left out. The summary is drawn from opinions that recur in the reviews read; each theme shows how many reviews mention it. These counts are not a rate and do not apply to every unit.
21 distinct UK-store review texts: Amazon UK 7 full reviews plus 11 review-topics excerpts (no author/date; deduplicated by text), Coffee Friend 2, eBay UK 1. We are totally loving this, as regular coffee drinkers we have tried all types of coffee creation from stove tops to cafetiere, all are good but this takes all the trouble out of making coffee. … There are somethings to get used to, the midterm cleaning processes are a bit involved, but easy once you've understood it. And you need basic maintenance everyday, i.e. filling and emptying various parts. … It looks great in silver, very stylish and elegant in the kitchen. Noisy when grinding but then any grinder will be. … So yeah totally love it, get one.

Regarding the coffee machine it's simply perfect for me. It's compact easy to use and creates some sensational tasting coffee. The choice of machines is mind boggling but I think at £370 and for the quality of coffee it makes it's a bargain. Well happy.

This is a good coffee maker and I am glad I bought it. I think it's a little on the expensive side though. That being said, I use it every day and have no regrets. Like others I find that the bottom fills up with water very quickly. The milk foamer works well and overall the machine is easy to use.

Firstly, it produces fantastic coffee. The strength can be adjusted from 1 - mild, to 3 -strong, and the volume can be varied from a small espresso up to a large cup. As a bean to cup machine, there is no faffing about tamping, measuring, etc.. You just press a button and off you go. … Unless anything goes wrong, this is the last coffee machine I will buy - I love it.

Stopped working after 5 weeks. Makes ok black coffee if you can get it to take the beans through ... Steamer heats the milk but regardless of setting won't froth the milk for a decent cappuccino. Previous DeLonghi machine much better.

Love it! Easy to set up, use and clean. All you have to do is choose your favourite beans! Milk frother took a bit of working out but it turns out some milks are better than others. 3 weeks in.... still loving it.

Does what it says on the tin!! Superb Coffee. However, item turned up with a European plug on it which I had to remove/replace with a UK plug before I could use it. Apart from that I am very happy with it.

I don't know about this machine yet. I've left it a few months before leaving a review and probably brewed around 200 coffees in it. Pros One button control Fast Generally tastes ok Cons This dispenses a lot of water in the tray! No idea what the 3 coffee bean types are for, seems to make no difference The milk frother is useless The thing needs cleaning so often it's unreal. …

Nice coffee machine, works very well and make exceptional coffees. The only down side is, it is loud when making a drink.

I like that it's very compact and the coffee is great. I also like that the height of the nozzle is adjustable, so that makes for less mess....

Great machine... Works as promised. Purchased 2 of these. Looks good, works well, small footprint and most importantly the coffee is great.
