The Ninja AutoBarista AE1001UK is a bean-to-cup machine that weighs and grinds beans, tamps, brews and froths milk by itself, with 10 one-touch drinks, 4 milk presets and two user profiles. Owners mostly praise the coffee, the hands-free frothing (including plant milks), easy cleaning and premium build. The main drawbacks: Grind IQ calibration uses many beans and often needs repeating, rinsing uses lots of water so refills and drip-tray emptying are frequent, drinks are slower than expected, and some report inconsistent espresso or faulty units. It is large (18 kg, about 45 cm deep) and pricier than many rivals. It suits households wanting café-style milk drinks with minimal effort and consistent beans; frequent bean-swappers and budget buyers should look elsewhere. No independent test or long-term reliability data exists yet.
Strengths
Fully automatic weight-based dosing, grinding, tamping and frothing make one-touch café-style drinks.
Coffee quality is widely praised once calibrated.
The hands-free milk frother handles dairy and plant milks, with 4 presets including cold foam.
Show all (6)
There is a broad drink range (cold brew, filter, over-ice) and two saved user profiles.
Automatic rinse cycles and dishwasher-safe parts make cleaning easy, and the machine has a 2-year guarantee.
Owners consistently praise its premium look and solid build.
Things to consider
Grind IQ calibration uses a lot of beans and must be repeated with new beans, sometimes several times a week.
Heavy water use for rinsing means frequent tank refills and drip-tray emptying.
Some owners report inconsistent espresso, lukewarm or unfrothed milk, or faulty units.

Drinks are slower than some expect, and the grinder can be loud.
It is large and heavy, at 18.11 kg and about 45 cm deep.
Store ratings lean on syndicated and incentivised reviews, and there is no independent test.
Who is it for, and who is it not for?
Good for
Households wanting milk-based café drinks at the touch of a button without learning barista skills.
Two people with different coffee preferences who can each save a profile.
Iced and cold-brew drinkers who want hot and cold drinks from one machine.
May not suit
People who change beans often, because each change triggers a bean-hungry recalibration.
Small kitchens or anyone wanting a compact, light machine.
Buyers who want quick drinks with little refilling and emptying.
The UK model is the AE1001UK (220-240 V). Ninja UK, John Lewis, Amazon.co.uk, Currys and Very all sell it in a single stainless steel/black finish with a 250 g hopper.
Ninja says AutoBarista Technology sets grind, brew and froth settings automatically, with a built-in scale for weight-based dosing, Grind IQ calibration to the beans in use and an integrated tamper.
There are 10 one-touch programmes, including filter coffee, cold brew, cold-pressed and over-ice drinks, plus 4 milk presets including cold foam and 2 saved user profiles.
Most reviewers praise the coffee as café-like once the machine is calibrated to their beans. Some former De'Longhi and Nespresso owners say it tastes better than their old machines.
The hands-free jug frother is widely praised, including with oat and other plant milks. Two reviewers said their milk was hot but did not froth, or stayed lukewarm.
The most common complaint is that Grind IQ calibration uses a lot of beans and must be repeated when beans are changed. Several owners said it needed recalibrating two or three times a week.
26 of 27 John Lewis reviews are syndicated from SharkNinja, and many are tagged as incentivised (product received for review). The independent buyer reviews on Currys and Amazon are fewer but more critical. Overall ratings may therefore overstate satisfaction.
UK prices checked on 27 October 2026 ranged from £740.27 (Amazon.co.uk) to £849.99 (Ninja UK, Currys, John Lewis). PriceSpy shows a falling trend with a 3-month low of £649.

Owners mostly like how little effort the AutoBarista needs. You pick a drink and it grinds, doses, tamps, brews and froths, and many say the coffee and the hands-free milk froth (including oat milk) beat their previous De'Longhi, Nespresso or pod machines. The look, solid build, automatic rinsing and two user profiles are also praised. The recurring criticism is Grind IQ calibration: it uses a lot of beans and has to be repeated when changing beans, and some owners had to recalibrate several times a week. The machine also uses a lot of water for rinsing, so the tank needs refilling and the drip tray emptying often, and drinks are slower than some expect. A minority report inconsistent espresso, lukewarm or unfrothed milk, a noisy grinder or faulty units, and a few returned it. Several people call it expensive; some think it is worth it.

The biggest disappointment is the milk function. Although the milk gets hot, it does not froth at all. I have tried different types of milk and all available settings, but the problem persists. … Water consumption has been equally frustrating: we get only around two cups of coffee from a full tank, with what seems to be much of the remaining water ending up in the drip tray.

It fails on the fundamental level to produce consistently good coffee. The grind IQ just doesn't work well at all. It needed recalibration twice a week and blazed through beans at an alarming rate. Calibration slips - manually change grind - slips - change again - then recalibrate.

Do not buy this coffee machine. It is not worth the money. Extraction is always terrible even after using the grind IQ, and the grind IQ uses A LOT of your beans that then go to waste. Even setting milk froth setting temperature as high, it is still always luke warm at best.

This is an unbelievable machine and the coffee has been perfect every time. Plus being automatic has been a game changer from the previous machine I had from ninjs

Once you find beans you like and calibrate it and get use to the settings very easy to use and great coffee. … Downside takes a little bit longer, water tank needs filling daily (as uses a lot to clean) and the water tray needs emptied daily.

my issue is it uses a lot of the beans to calibrate, more than I would have expected. The hot water function tasted of plastic for ages, even though I kept running water through it, but the coffee side didn't which was strange.

What a great machine. It looks really stylish and sleek on my countertop and is compact, with lots of functionality that you would expect from a premium coffee machine. Having previously been a fan of Delonghi and Sage when it came to coffee machines, I am happy to have converted to Ninja after many months of flirting with a purchase! Great job, Ninja.

The only thing I found slightly frustrating was when changing coffee beans. You need to run the Grind IQ calibration again, and this can use quite a lot of beans during the process.

I'm a fan of oat milk and you even have the option of plant based or dairy when using the milk froth. The milk can be warmed or cold and no messing about holding the jug!

The only negative I have is that it is slightly loud. But other than that it is amazing.

We did get an 'Error 43' message once. We switched the machine off at the plug, left it for 20 minutes and it worked fine again once plugged back in.

The grind IQ function was the real issue - it needed calibration two or three times a week using beans like never before. (Nine shots worth). The espresso was inconsistent. Great shot when calibrated but then the shot was hardly being pushed through the puck. … In short looks great and solid - fails on its main job, which is to make coffee, and is endlessly faffy - it has been returned.

Makes great coffee, after owning delonghi coffee machines for the past 15 years this machine makes better coffees however it does take a little longer to make the same drinks. This is why ive marked it down a little if I could I would give the machine a 4.8.

Hoping this would be a significant upgrade from the Ninja Pro I was disappointed. The first machine didn’t work at all and after a 30 mins call with tech support a replacement was provided. The second machine has the same fault two days in. I may be unlucky. … The reservoir will see you through one day, if you are lucky.

As with other Ninja appliances, the quality is high, great value for money for a coffee shop at home brew! It’s sleek, doesn’t take up a huge amount of counter top space either. … Noise level is ok, it’s the grinding of the beans that’s the noise but it doesn’t sound overly loud or irritating.

The milk frother works really well and makes a lovely creamy foam for lattes and cappuccinos, which is probably my favourite part of the machine. … Cleaning it is easier than I expected and the automatic rinsing and self cleaning features make a big difference when using it every day. The water try needs emptying a lot and it uses a lot of water to rinse.
The reviewer highly praises the Ninja AutoBarista PRO for its fully automated bean grinding, tamping, and brewing capabilities that make finished coffee in about two minutes. It offers hot and iced drinks, authentic drip coffee, cold brew, and customizable user profiles. While the machine prompts users to brew espresso directly over ice for iced lattes, the reviewer prefers adding ice afterwards to prevent dilution.
5 Mistakes Almost Everyone Makes with the Ninja AutoBarista
The Ninja AutoBarista Pro is a highly automated bean-to-cup coffee machine that can produce great espresso once set up properly. However, users should not blindly rely on the automated Grind iQ system or change beans too frequently, as recalibration can waste coffee and the settings menu is counter-intuitive to navigate.
The Ninja AutoBarista Pro comes equipped with a milk jug, an adjustable cup tray, and necessary cleaning accessories. This setup guide explains how to install the water filter, load coffee beans onto the integrated weighing scale, run automatic rinse cycles, and set the water hardness level.
