At a glance

In the UK, the Gaggia Classic Evo Pro name is used for Gaggia's current Classic E24: a fully manual, single-boiler espresso machine with a brass boiler, lead-free brass group, 58 mm stainless portafilter, 3-way solenoid and a professional steam wand. Owners rate the espresso highly and like the robust, simple design, but it needs a good grinder, a proper tamper and some practice, and you cannot steam and brew at the same time. It suits hands-on home baristas who want café-style espresso and are happy to learn; anyone wanting automatic milk frothing, temperature control or one-touch drinks should look elsewhere. It is not stocked by the big UK high-street chains and availability at specialist sellers is patchy. Long-term reliability of the brass-boiler version has no independent test yet; isolated early faults are reported.

Strengths

  • Brass boiler and lead-free brass group with a commercial-size 58 mm stainless portafilter.
  • Owners consistently praise the espresso quality.
  • Solid build and simple rocker-switch controls with few electronics.
Show all (4)
  • Large 2.1 l front-removable tank and a choice of colour versions.

Things to consider

  • No pre-infusion programme or temperature control, and manual descaling.
  • Single boiler: brewing and steaming can't happen at the same time, which slows down several milk drinks.
  • Needs a capable grinder and better tamper than the plastic one supplied; learning curve.
Show all (5)
  • Not sold by John Lewis, Currys or Argos; stock at specialist sellers is patchy and the warranty depends on the seller.
  • Isolated early faults reported, and the earlier aluminium-boiler Evo Pro had a boiler-coating issue.
Who is it for, and who is it not for?

Good for

  • Home baristas who want to learn manual espresso making and upgrade later with their own grinder and accessories.
  • Owners of older Gaggia Classics or entry machines looking for a sturdier upgrade.

May not suit

  • Anyone wanting automatic milk frothing, timers or one-touch drinks.
  • Households making several milk drinks back to back.

UK naming

In the UK, 'Classic Evo Pro' is used by retailers for Gaggia's current Classic E24 (RI9481 family) with a brass boiler; the manufacturer itself calls the machine Classic E24 and has no UK site.

Inference from the sources · See source

Controls and features

Earlier Evo Pro boiler issue

The earlier 2023 Evo Pro with a coated aluminium boiler had a coating-flaking problem in a single-digit percentage of units, which Gaggia repaired; an owner forum thread reports brew-head blockages after descaling on an Evo Pro. These concern the aluminium-boiler version, not the brass-boiler E24.

Owners mostly praise the espresso, often saying it rivals pricier or more automated machines, and describe the machine as solidly built with simple, satisfying switches. The other side is that it is a genuinely manual machine: buyers mention a learning curve, needing a good grinder and a better tamper than the plastic one supplied, and the single-boiler workflow that cannot steam and brew at the same time. A couple of UK buyers had early faults (a burning smell and blown fuse, a failed power switch). Several reviewers consider it good value for the coffee quality.

  1. G*** 5/5 1 June 2026 Amazon Thunder Black

Makes a great coffee. Just watch some videos about how to get the best out of it. Takes a little practice from being a novice. Love how I can now have better coffee at home than from a coffee shop

  2. A*** 5/5 13 May 2026 Amazon Cherry Red

Updated older model of the same make to this one. Beautiful and functional. Not too many electronic things/buttons that is what exactly we were after!

  3. W*** 5/5 22 April 2026 Amazon Stainless Steel

This one is the business. I had a fully manual one of these for 20 years and this one is the same quality but with a few more bells and whistles. Unlike Delonghi

  4. M*** C*** 5/5 10 August 2025 Amazon Jungle Green

This is a great coffee machine, built like a tank and makes great coffee. However it is a very manual machine, no timers or fancy temperature controls, just on off switches and a thermostat. My previous machine was a Sage Bambino which was much easier for long white coffees like latte and flat white, as it had timers and automatic milk frothing. The Gaggia makes better coffee than the Sage, but I have had to buy a lot of new accessories like a decent espresso grinder, tamper, distributor and puck screen.

  5. R*** 4/5 5 September 2024 Amazon Thunder Black

First espresso machine and so far so good. Still have a lot of learning to do but this appears to be a well built machine that will last. Only thing that dropped a star is the tamper provided - some horrible little plastic thing that doesn't even fit the 58mm basket. You'd think for the price you're paying that Gaggia could throw in a nicer tamper that fits. I've had to buy that separately.

  6. C*** H*** 5/5 20 November 2024 Amazon Stainless Steel

Bought this to replace an earlier version off this machine which I’ve had for about 15+ years but alas it eventually broke down completely, the new machine seems to be working well in the brief time I’ve had it, … personally I think the gaggia classic is excellent for my needs and highly recommend it and it makes a great coffee and it’s super easy to use.

  7. D*** K*** 5/5 15 December 2025 Amazon Cherry Red; reviewed in Japan

This is an awesome machine. Makes a perfect crema and the steam boiler punches out got milk very quickly. … I almost think the Gaggia makes a better espresso. Only thing would be that it is a little slower at making more than 2-3 coffees as you can't stream milk and make espresso at the same time. However... For a third of the price this machine wins actually. Very, very happy.

  8. S*** C*** 5/5 11 July 2024 Amazon Midnight Blue; reviewed in Canada

best money i have ever spent on anything. fills all my need to make a proper cup of espresso in the mooring. the only issue i have is the one way turn on the steam wand, one extra pivot point for 25 more dollars?

  9. S*** 1/5 13 January 2025 Amazon RI9481/15 listing; colour shown Stainless Steel

I have purchased this recently and already the on/off switch has broken. Doesn’t stay in which means the machine can’t warm up. I have contacted the company today, the asked me to double box it, leave a note on outside for EU customs and VAT. Basically I’m left stuck without a coffee machine for a month and no refund, I made a big mistake buying this.

  10. C*** D*** L*** H*** 5/5 No date clumsygoat.co.uk

I love it! Easy to use and exactly as described.

  11. M*** 5/5 23 August 2023 coffeefriend.co.uk Inox; 2023 review, likely earlier Evo build

Previously owned a Gaggia Classic, but the Evo model is a significant upgrade. The portafilter, buttons, and exterior all feel soo much better.

  12. P*** 5/5 24 January 2024 coffeefriend.co.uk Inox

    Very good espresso maker.

Gaggia Classic EVO Pro Review | Upgrade?

The Gaggia Classic Evo Pro is an iterative evolution of the popular Classic Pro, introducing welcome upgrades such as an out-of-the-box 9-bar OPV spring, a brass group head, and a solid stainless steel portafilter. While it misses out on PID temperature control and retains a lightweight plastic handle, its internal coating against limescale and retained pricing make it an exceptional entry-level espresso machine.

YouTube · Comparison

Testing The Gaggia Classic Pro E24 Vs Evo Pro 23.

The Gaggia Classic Pro E24 replaces the coated aluminium boiler of the 2023 Evo Pro with an uncoated brass boiler, increasing internal water capacity by roughly 30%. This delivers higher brew water temperatures, reduced temperature swings for improved shot-to-shot consistency, and more powerful, sustained steam power. Although the steam ready light takes slightly longer to activate, steaming can still be initiated early with the usual steam temperature hack.

YouTube · Comparison

Gaggia Classic Evo Pro vs Gaggia Classic Pro V2 - What's Changed? Plus, My Opinion On Boilergate

The video compares the Gaggia Classic Pro Evo with the earlier Classic Pro, tearing down both units to evaluate their build, noise, and espresso performance. The Evo offers upgraded materials including a brass group head and a polished portafilter, though in-cup espresso quality remains largely identical. The reviewer considers it an excellent budget espresso machine and believes the 'boilergate' coating controversy has been blown out of proportion.

How we evaluate, and the limits

This page is compiled from manufacturer, store, review and video sources; every piece of information links to the source it was read from. Technical values are as stated by the manufacturer or store; user experiences are summarised from the reviews read and do not apply to every unit. We do not test products ourselves.
