The Breville Pixl (VCF193 in black; also sold in oat and grey) is a small, plastic-bodied manual espresso machine for ground coffee. It has a 15-bar pump, a 52 mm portafilter, a 0.6-litre tank, Thermoblock heating and a steam wand. Its big strength is the very small footprint, and early owners find it easy to use, quick to heat and capable of good espresso and frothed milk. The trade-offs are a light, plasticky build that slides when the portafilter is attached, a stiff portafilter at first, some noise and a small water tank. There is no grinder, so you need pre-ground coffee or a separate grinder. It suits beginners stepping up from pods and anyone short on counter space. Those wanting a sturdier, heavier machine should look at larger models. It launched in October 2026, so long-term reliability is not yet known and no independent lab test has been published.

Applies to the model family
It is a very compact espresso machine, about 19.5 cm wide, 33 cm deep and 29 cm high. Breville calls it its most compact espresso machine yet.
It is a manual espresso machine for ground coffee with a 52 mm portafilter and single and double baskets. It has no built-in grinder.
It has a 15-bar pump and a 0.6-litre transparent removable water tank.
Breville claims Thermoblock heating gives over 50% faster heat-up than its Prima Latte VCF183. It also lists automatic temperature control, gentle pre-infusion, hot or cold brew espresso and single/double shot presets.
It has a manual CoolTouch steam wand with adjustable steam and comes with a 350 ml stainless steel milk jug.
Breville lists the material as plastic. Two reviewers describe the machine as feeling cheap or mostly plastic, including the portafilter handle.
Users most often praise the small footprint. It suits small kitchens, offices, crowded worktops and cupboards.
Reviewers find it simple to set up and operate, with clear instructions. Several are first-time espresso machine owners moving up from pod machines.
Reviewers describe smooth, rich espresso with crema and quick brewing.
Many reviewers praise the steam wand as powerful and good for cappuccinos and lattes. One Amazon reviewer could not get frothy milk despite following the instructions and returned the machine.
The commonest complaint is that the machine is so light it slides when the portafilter is locked in or removed, so it has to be steadied with a hand. Several reviewers also find the portafilter stiff at first, though some say it eases with use.
Some reviewers find the pump and steam wand loud, especially at start-up.
Two isolated set-up issues were reported. One was a temporary airlock when first priming the pump. The other was flashing buttons that occasionally needed a restart at the plug.
Reviewers often call it good value or reasonably priced for a first proper espresso machine.
The model launched in early October 2026. All visible Currys and Argos reviews were collected through Breville promotions or syndicated from Breville, and Amazon's include a Vine review. Feedback is early and likely skews positive, and long-term reliability is not yet known.
The Currys VCF193 specification table contains entries that contradict Breville and other retailers: 1.4-litre tank, 12.49 kg weight, 398 x 408 x 490 mm dimensions, 'Whole beans' and 'Automatic bean to cup'. These rows look wrong.
The 2-year Breville warranty is a replacement warranty and must be activated by registering the product within 90 days of purchase.
The removable parts are dishwasher-safe and there is a descale warning. Reviewers find it easy to clean, though one notes it can splash outside the drip tray.
At launch it is listed at £159.99 at Amazon, Currys and Argos (Argos stocks only the grey VCF202). John Lewis, AO and Very do not list it.

User experience
See the common points first, then read the original reviews yourself.
Summarised from the 25 reviews we read. A review can mention several points, so the theme counts can add up to more than 25.
Early owners mostly love how small the Pixl is. It fits crowded worktops, small kitchens and offices, and many describe it as an easy first step up from pod machines. Espresso is described as smooth and rich with crema, and the steam wand is often called surprisingly powerful for lattes and cappuccinos. The main practical niggle is weight: the machine is so light that it slides when the portafilter is locked in or removed, and the portafilter can feel stiff at first. Others mention noise from the pump and wand, a plasticky feel, a small milk jug and the lack of a grinder. One buyer could not get frothy milk and returned it. Feedback so far is from the first weeks of ownership and largely from promotional review programmes.
Summarised from 25 reviews. The summary is drawn from opinions that recur in the reviews read; each theme shows how many reviews mention it. These counts are not a rate and do not apply to every unit.

It’s very compact, so perfect for an office space. Made a nice smooth tasting coffee shot. However, the machine is SO small and SO lightweight that every time I tried to put the ground coffee in it portafilter and twist it on, the whole machine tries to move with it. … The other issue I had with this machine was I could not get the milk to have a lovely frothy head for a latte. I followed the instructions by the letter but nope, it would not forth.
S*** 4/5 12 October 2026 Amazon Black; Vine review of free product
This is our first "proper" coffee machine after using coffee pods for a while. So far we've been really pleased with it. … It's straightforward to operate, heats up quickly and makes a lovely smooth, creamy espresso. … If I had to pick a downside, it's that the compact size also means the machine is quite lightweight. When attaching or removing the filter holder it can move around a bit unless you steady it. I've found that simply placing a hand on top of the machine solves the problem so it's more of a minor niggle than a serious fault.

Really impressed with this dinky machine. It feels a little lightweight - but that’s kind of the point as it takes up a minimal footprint so is perfect for small kitchens. Makes a decent fresh coffee (sadly not bean to cup but that’s the trade off size and price wise) and is simple to use and clean.
L*** H*** 5/5 5 October 2026 Amazon Oat (VCF196)
I love this little machine. It does exactly what it says it does and is compact and cost effective. I'm so impressed. Its very lightweight so it could do with a means of securing it to the counter but that's my only gripe. Its only an issue initially when the portafilter is tight. Once it loosens a bit there is no issue at all.

This is like a compact version of a professional coffee maker. Does everything a ground espresso coffee machine would do but on a smaller scale.. ideal ! Quick heat up, easy to operate, reasonably priced

Impressed by this small format barista style coffee machine! Looks great and delivers tasty coffee for limited counter space! I am now a pro milk frother (and oat milk!)

Looks good just been using recently so fairly new at using the espresso maker. Good value for money, easy to use, easy to clean. Would purchase again.

Lovely little espresso machine. Milk frother allow you to have cafe-like cappuccinos and lattes whenever you want.

A great 1st coffee machine for getting used to making coffees at home without the price tag … feels cheap as its mostly plastic (including the coffee basket handle) … milk jug is on the small side but still big enough for 1 cup at a time
Customer 5/5 20 October 2026 Currys Black; reviewer received the machine to review
I did have a bit of a struggle with the initial priming -the pump was running but no water was coming through at first. It turned out to be a temporary airlock … Both the coffee brewing and the steam wand are a bit on the loud side
Customer 5/5 23 October 2026 Currys Black; syndicated from Breville
Very impressed with this compact espresso machine. Takes up so little space! … abit tight to attach upon first use but is noticeably easier after a few uses
H*** G*** 4/5 20 October 2026 Currys Black; syndicated from Breville
I loved using the product, very easy to set up and perfect for a great cup of coffee in the morning … not expecting the steam wand to be as powerful as it is. The only thing I wish it had was a bean grinder.

What a great coffee machine. I like that it’s a size that doesn’t take up too much space on the counter but still gives great selection of coffees. It’s easy to set up, and easy to us…

Amazing compact espresso machine having a small kitchen is hard to find appliances that are compact but dont lack in quality and performance. … instructions are really straight forward

The Breville PIXL Compact Espresso Maker is as described, compact and great at making a variety of coffee’s. The product itself is very sleek and modern looking, light weight and easy to use. It does however tend to make a mess outside of the spill tray so keep a cloth to hand to wipe down surfaces.
K*** 5/5 16 October 2026 Argos Grey (VCF202); collected in Breville promotion
Thirdly the speed. It made the coffee in no time. I'm impressed by how quick it heated up the water and coffee pouring out. … This isn't the quietest machine but it does sound powerful.
R*** 4/5 17 October 2026 Argos Grey (VCF202); collected in Breville promotion
The sleek and compact design makes it ideal for any space. The setup was very easy (although make sure you wash it throughly before use). Makes an excellent coffee and the foam is a lovely bonus. Will save a fortune on coffees out now as I can make them the same at home.
L*** 5/5 16 October 2026 Argos Grey (VCF202); collected in Breville promotion
Absolutely love the slim design that’s easy to fit on my crowded kitchen worktop! Excellent functions and love the ability to have either hot brew for winter and cold brew for summer. Easy to clean and maintain.

Received this coffee maker which is compact but mighty ! Makes a great espresso with crema , which was a real pleasant surprise. Absolute upgrade from our pod machine and coffee pot. Takes up very little space but can handle a double espresso with ease..

A really compact but well performing machine! I particularly like the hot water function to heat the coffee cups first! The parts it comes with all work great, and its so easy to understand the instructions and buttons. The milk frother makes a great hot foam. Only used it once so far…

Such a cute little coffee machine, but don’t get fooled by its size , the little compact body doesn’t compromise on taste! Amazing performance! Nice rich coffee! Easy to set up and start away !
