The Sage Oracle Dual Boiler (SES995) is Sage's flagship espresso machine. It has dual boilers, a built-in Baratza-burr grinder, automatic grinding, dosing and tamping with Auto Dial-in, automatic milk texturing, a 5.7-inch touch screen and Wi-Fi app control. Owners and a UK expert reviewer praise the coffee and milk quality and how easy it makes good drinks. The downsides are the very high price, slow warm-up, a limited app, and some reports of software crashes and early failures. Long-term reliability is not yet known because the model only launched in September 2025. It suits people who want café-quality milk drinks with minimal skill and are willing to pay for automation. Hands-on enthusiasts may prefer a simpler, more repairable machine.
Before you buy
What the features mean in everyday use.
Dual stainless-steel boilers with PID control and a heated group head, so espresso and steam can be made at the same time.
Integrated grinder with Baratza European precision burrs and 45 settings; auto grind, dose and tamp, plus Auto Dial-in that adjusts the grind after each shot.
Steam wand with Auto MilQ automatic texturing, adjustable temperature and texture, and settings for plant-based milks.
5.7-inch touch screen, 16 preset drinks, Wi-Fi with the Sage+ Coffee app for remote pre-heat and software updates.
2.3 L front-fill tank and 340 g hopper; the machine measures 45.4 x 37 x 37.5 cm and weighs about 17.2 kg.
Most UK buyers in the sample praise the espresso and milk drinks as café-quality, often comparing it favourably with previous machines.
Buyers frequently describe the guided screen and automatic mode as easy to use, while still allowing manual adjustment.
A minority of buyers report software problems: screen crashes and reboots mid-shot, setup resetting, or a slightly laggy screen; one hoped a firmware update had fixed glitches.
Two John Lewis reviewers report faulty units: one machine stopped turning on after six weeks, another buyer was awaiting a third replacement after repeated screen crashes. The sample is too small to judge reliability.
Several buyers say it is expensive or overpriced, though most of them still consider it worth the money.
One buyer reported significant channelling with the automatic tamper; another found the used puck stiff and hard to knock out.
Expert Reviews (UK) praises it as supremely easy to use with excellent milk texturing and amazing coffee, but notes it is very expensive, Auto Dial-in does not always optimise consistently for different coffees, the app is very limited, warm-up takes about four minutes and dual boilers are overkill for most users.
Which? has tested the model (released September 2025, first reviewed December 2025), but its score and verdict are only available to members.
One buyer found it very slow to heat from cold and disliked not being able to select a drink while it warms up; one buyer noticed a plastic smell affecting taste on their unit.
Several reviewers upgraded from an earlier Oracle or other bean-to-cup machines and describe it as an improvement, including easier descaling without tools.
Sold with a 2-year repair, replace or refund guarantee from Sage; John Lewis and Currys list a 2-year guarantee.
Sold new by major UK retailers (John Lewis, Currys, AO, Sage) at around £2,249, down from a £2,499 list price; Amazon.co.uk had only a used offer at the time of checking.
A Home-Barista user reported a dead hot-water boiler thermostat on a used North American BES995 bought from a liquidation store; this is a single anecdote.
Applies to the model family
Compared with the Oracle Touch SES990 (2.5 L tank, 280 g hopper, conical burrs), the SES995 has a smaller tank, a larger hopper, Baratza burrs, Wi-Fi and Auto Dial-in, so they are different models.
Steam wand with Auto MilQ automatic texturing, adjustable temperature and texture, and settings for plant-based milks.
5.7-inch touch screen, 16 preset drinks, Wi-Fi with the Sage+ Coffee app for remote pre-heat and software updates.

Summarised from the 31 reviews we read. A review can mention several points, so the theme counts can add up to more than 31.
Owners mostly praise the coffee: espresso and milk drinks are described as café-quality, and the automatic grinding, dosing, tamping and milk texturing make good results easy, with a manual mode for those who want control. Several upgraded from older Oracles or bean-to-cup machines and see it as a clear step up, including simpler descaling. Many call it expensive, though most feel it is worth it. The main complaints are software: screens crashing or rebooting mid-shot, setup resetting, or a slightly laggy interface. Two owners had units fail early or need replacing. Other single reports mention channelling with the auto tamper, stiff puck knock-out, slow warm-up and a plastic smell.
Summarised from 31 reviews. The summary is drawn from opinions that recur in the reviews read; each theme shows how many reviews mention it. These counts are not a rate and do not apply to every unit.
31 unique written reviews: John Lewis 26 (all, API pages 1-2; 15 syndicated from Sage), Currys/Feefo 2, Amazon.co.uk 3 (incl. 1 UAE; duplicate counted once). 2 Amazon rating-only entries not counted. ratings_total = John Lewis + Currys + Amazon; Sage's own count excluded as it overlaps. Excellent coffee machine, easy to use with set programs that can be adapted or you can change it to a manual function… Yes, it is an expensive outlay but you get excellent coffee, designed to your taste for many years to come.
D*** 5/5 4 June 2026 John Lewis
Bought this to replace a delonghi primadonna fully automatic machine that we had for over 10 years, this machine makes different coffees to a totally different level the milk frothing is so good, you can tweak the taste with so many settings to suit your taste, makes coffee shop quality at home simple!!!!!! Very happy so far after 2 weeks
M*** 2/5 14 May 2026 John Lewis
Disappointing because the tamper system caused very significant channelling. 2kg of fresh coffee was used in testing. We concluded that the system was unable to tamper adequately.
M*** W*** 4/5 28 January 2026 John Lewis
…why 4 stars? We've had a couple of software glitches and, as of this review, we're hoping the recent firmware update has them resolved… Do I recommend this machine? Yes!
d*** 2/5 24 January 2026 John Lewis
…This latest version was nightmarishly complicated to set up -clearly designed by a computer geek. … Main problem is that once turned on there was a strong plasticky hot smell…
A*** 2/5 21 January 2026 John Lewis
This would be a 5 star review but ……. I am now awaiting delivery of my 3rd dual boiler in 3 months. After a months use each time both machines had the same fault, the screen crashes half way through and reboots… When it works it's great ……
N*** 5/5 28 December 2025 John Lewis
Quite possibly the best coffee machine we've ever had. The dual boiler combined with the smart grinder is a real game-changer - consistently excellent coffee and minimal effort.

Makes great coffee, but ours lasted 6 weeks before failing. Wont even turn on now. I know, under warranty but thats not the point.
R*** 4/5 26 November 2025 John Lewis
A great machine that makes perfect coffee. It has one or two annoying features, such as you cannot select the coffee type while it is warming up, so you can't grind the beans… It is also VERY slow to heat up and get working from cold. … Having said that it makes fantastic coffee and microfoams the milk perfectly.
T*** 5/5 19 November 2025 John Lewis
I upgraded from the original oracle to this. … It's an amazing machine while feeling familiar coming from the oracle. But it upgrades the original oracle in every way. The app is brilliant too. The screen and software is a pleasure to use. The milk wand seems better too. And the auto dialling in has been making sure I get great shots every day.
N*** 2/5 9 November 2025 John Lewis
This machine is extremely overpriced for what it is. If you have the money, buy the real deal that won't become useless when the silly touch screen interface ultimately dies… This machine was dreamt up for the uninitiated.
L*** 5/5 31 October 2025 John Lewis
I chose to upgrade after several years of owning Sage machines. It's an investment but half the price of a La Marzocco… It produces genuinely the best coffee I've ever made… The build quality is high and the design is refined from previous Sage models.

I bought this machine on the day it was released in the UK… A huge improvement over older Oracles is the descaling process: you no longer need a screwdriver to flush out the boilers…
S*** 5/5 27 August 2026 Amazon Stainless Steel
Love the Duel Boiler. Makes excellent coffee. Machine is very easy to use. Looks grand in the kitchen. Very good build quality. Only downside is that it’s very overpriced. I would highly recommend.
A*** 5/5 21 February 2026 Amazon Black Truffle
I took a very long time to justify this purchase. Wished I had bought it far sooner. This coffee machine is the don. Very easy to make incredible coffee, better than your local coffee shop. Only minor downside is that the screen is a little laggy, only when you compare to a modern smart phone but perfectly fine.
L*** 4/5 16 August 2026 Currys
I love the machine but find it a little stiff and hard to knock out the used coffee .
P*** 5/5 27 December 2025 Currys
Fantastic machine and the best sage has made to date

The Sage Oracle Dual Boiler delivers great convenience with automated grinding, tamping, touchscreen controls, and remote preheating via an app. However, it is very expensive, the internal cooling fan is noticeably loud, and the automated dose weight can be inconsistent. Despite these flaws, it brews balanced espresso and froths milk well both automatically and manually.
YouTube · Review
The Sage / Breville Oracle Dual Boiler combines user-friendly automatic drink options with full manual barista controls, delivering outstanding milk texture and quiet operation. However, it carries a very high price tag, and features like the auto dial-in and mandatory 20-minute auto-off timer still need improvement.
YouTube · Review
The Breville/Sage Oracle Dual Boiler is a premium home espresso machine designed for coffee lovers seeking café-quality espresso and milk drinks without a steep learning curve. It delivers great automation, from flow-based automatic grind dial-in to consistent automated milk steaming and a responsive touchscreen interface. However, it is very costly, requires manual purging when adjusting grind size, and the grinder can overheat during heavy, continuous usage.
YouTube · Review
The Oracle Dual Boiler combines high-end dual-boiler brewing with advanced automated dosing, grinding, and milk texturing. It delivers impressive cafe-quality drinks with minimal effort, although its high price tag makes it best suited for buyers seeking ultimate convenience rather than value-conscious coffee purists. Enthusiasts seeking complete gear customization may prefer pairing a standard dual boiler with a dedicated external grinder.
