At a glance

The De'Longhi Classic EM450.M is a compact stainless steel manual espresso machine with a 15-bar pump, Thermoblock heating, a 1.7 L tank and a steam wand. Owners like how easy it is to use, its small footprint and its looks, and most are happy with the coffee. It comes with pressurised double-wall baskets only, which suits pre-ground coffee but limits fine control. After steaming milk you have to wait for it to cool before brewing again, which slows down making several milk drinks in a row. It suits beginners and households making one or two drinks at a time. Enthusiasts after latte-art microfoam or several milk drinks back to back should look elsewhere. Long-term reliability is unproven, and no independent UK lab test was found.

Strengths

  • Easy to use, with few controls, and friendly for beginners.
  • Compact footprint (about 22.6 cm wide, 31 cm high) that fits under wall units.
  • Owners report hot espresso with good crema and creamy milk drinks.
Show all (4)
  • Stainless steel retro design with a front pressure gauge.

Things to consider

  • After steaming milk the machine needs to cool before it can brew again, which slows back-to-back milk drinks.
  • Only pressurised double-wall baskets are supplied, the double basket is small, and the steam wand struggles to make fine microfoam.
  • Getting grind, dose, tamping and frothing right takes practice.
Show all (4)
  • Descaling can be confusing, and one owner reports faults with poor aftersales support.
Who is it for, and who is it not for?

Good for

  • First-time espresso users who want a simple manual machine for pre-ground coffee.
  • Small kitchens with limited worktop space.
  • Households making one or two coffees at a time.

May not suit

  • People making several milk drinks back to back.
  • Enthusiasts wanting non-pressurised baskets, large doses or latte-art microfoam.

Owners commonly like the coffee flavour and crema, compact footprint and straightforward everyday controls. Routine cleaning and refilling are generally described as manageable, and some appreciate the milk frother once they have practised. The clearest recurring frustration is the wait or flashing lights when switching from steaming back to brewing, making consecutive milk-based drinks awkward for some users. Other criticisms include a learning curve with preparation and frothing, while an owner finds descaling and clearing its warning light particularly troublesome.

What buyers like

  • Coffee flavour or crema is praised.10 reviews
  • The compact footprint suits limited worktop space.8 reviews
  • Everyday operation or adjustment is considered easy.11 reviews
  • Routine cleaning or water-tank refilling is straightforward.7 reviews

Common complaints

  • Preparation or milk frothing takes practice.4 reviews
  • Waiting or flashing lights after steaming interrupts further drink preparation.4 reviews
  • Descaling and clearing its warning light are difficult.1 review

I’m very happy with my new coffee machine it’s a good size for a smaller space and very easy to use..It’s a really cool design and no complicated settings…my kitchen smells like a coffee shop in a morning now 😊☕️

  2. G*** 4/5 17 October 2026 Argos Metal; no free-product label displayed.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago. . Still trying to fathom out how to do the coffee as I steam the milk first and then the lights just constantly flash. I end up turning it off at the mains then restarting the machine. Easy to clean up and easy to top up water tank. Just going through a lot of different brands and strengths of coffee now. 😁.

  3. m*** 5/5 1 October 2026 Argos Metal; no free-product label displayed.

I am delighted with my new De'Longhi Classic coffee machine. It is much easier to use than I expected, and produces wonderful coffee time after time. It is also pretty quick, and is also very easy to clean.

  4. S*** 5/5 14 September 2026 Argos Metal; reviewer disclosed receiving a free product.

I love my new coffee machine as it is not as bulky as alot of coffee machines out there and doesn't look like a sight for sore eyes on my worktop. It is sleek and stylish and the coffee tastes amazing. The parts do come off easily for cleaning and the refillable water tank is easy to remove. I love my built in milk frother! It did take me a while to get the hang of it but it's an absolute game changer for a hot drink.

  5. C*** M*** 5/5 11 August 2026 Amazon Metal listing; UK review; verified purchase.

I really like this little machine... it pays, if making more than one coffee to steam the milk when all coffees are made, otherwise you have to wait for the steamer to be ready again, due to safety feature, but the flavour/crema is really good. I'd buy this again certainly. Also, it's so easy to adjust the amount of coffee for one or two cups. A great feature.

  6. M*** G*** 5/5 9 July 2026 Amazon Metal listing; UK review; verified purchase.

Excellent machine for the price. Makes tasty coffee that is hot, not tepid warm - I always pour boiling water in my mug first to heat it before the coffee goes in. It has a large water tank so your no constantly filling it. All in all its easy to use, the milk frother can be a little messy but its reasonalby easy to clean.

  7. T*** R*** 1/5 25 December 2025 Amazon Metal listing; UK review; verified purchase.

We bought this machine as a Christmas present to ourselves. I have to say that I am seriously disappointed with it. If one uses the steam function to froth milk to make a cappuccino then it takes ages to cool down sufficiently to make another espresso, effectively the machine simple freezes and the lights all flash until it is ready to go again. To the point that your coffee is going to be cold before you make two cups. I am quite surprised at all the five star reviews this machine has received, I can't be the only one who would like to be able to make a cappuccino and then make another cup.

  8. J*** 2/5 1 April 2026 Amazon Metal listing; UK review; verified purchase.

Made coffee but as soon as I used the milk frother it instanly will over heat and need 10 mins to cool and reset

  9. P*** F*** 1/5 16 August 2026 John Lewis Silver/metal; verified buyer.

I have read the guide, asked Google AI questions and watched videos, but I still can't remove the orange warning light on the steam wand. I find the whole process of descaling a complete nightmare and incredibly complicated. This whole process of descaling has put me off coffee machines and if this one grinds to a halt I will revert back to my coffee plunger. The build quality is good and it makes good coffee, but descaling is the bug bear for me.

  10. E*** 5/5 3 June 2026 John Lewis Silver/metal; reviewer labelled a John Lewis partner.

Lovely machine that makes very creamy coffee. The water tank is easy to fill and clean. The handle is super smooth to close, no need to hold the machine to close it unlike most of the machine in the market. I'm honestly very happy about this purchase and I would recommend to anyone wants an Italian style coffee at home!

Delonghi Linea Classic EM450 Review and Test

The De'Longhi LINEA Classic is a compact espresso maker that delivers performance very similar to the popular Dedica, featuring an integrated pressure gauge and a generous 1.7-litre water tank. Although the bundled portafilter and basket feel cheap, the machine produces hot, well-balanced espresso and can create decent microfoam once the Panarello sleeve is removed. Overall, it offers a solid and accessible entry point for home espresso enthusiasts.

DeLonghi Linea Classic Review | Budget Espresso That Punches Above Its Weight

The De'Longhi Linea Classic is a compact, budget-friendly semi-automatic espresso machine equipped with a built-in pressure gauge and a removable drip tray for taller cups. While it comes with basic pressurised baskets and a flimsy plastic tamper, it performs adequately out of the box for pre-ground coffee. With simple modifications, such as using an unpressurised basket and removing the Panarello sleeve, it is capable of producing impressively balanced espresso and proper microfoam.

De'Longhi EM450 Review: Should You Buy This Espresso Machine?

The De'Longhi Classic EM450 is an affordable espresso machine with a solid build that is straightforward to use for various coffee drinks. While the included plastic tamper feels flimsy and the stainless finish picks up fingerprints easily, it represents solid value for home or office settings.

Delonghi Linea Classic Review: Upgrade or Just a New Dedica?

The De'Longhi Linea Classic is an affordable, attractive entry-level espresso machine that produces decent coffee quickly with minimal fuss. While it suffers from lightweight construction, a plasticky portafilter, and the omission of non-pressurised baskets, it remains a forgiving option for beginners. Enthusiasts seeking precise dial-in control or silky microfoam for latte art may want to look elsewhere.

How we evaluate, and the limits

This page is compiled from manufacturer, store, review and video sources; every piece of information links to the source it was read from. Technical values are as stated by the manufacturer or store; user experiences are summarised from the reviews read and do not apply to every unit. We do not test products ourselves.
