The De'Longhi Classic EM450.M is a compact stainless steel manual espresso machine with a 15-bar pump, Thermoblock heating, a 1.7 L tank and a steam wand. Owners like how easy it is to use, its small footprint and its looks, and most are happy with the coffee. It comes with pressurised double-wall baskets only, which suits pre-ground coffee but limits fine control. After steaming milk you have to wait for it to cool before brewing again, which slows down making several milk drinks in a row. It suits beginners and households making one or two drinks at a time. Enthusiasts after latte-art microfoam or several milk drinks back to back should look elsewhere. Long-term reliability is unproven, and no independent UK lab test was found.
Before you buy
What the features mean in everyday use.
A manual espresso machine with a 15-bar pump, 1325 W Thermoblock heating and a 1.7 L removable tank, in a stainless steel and plastic body.
Compact footprint: 31 cm high, 22.6 cm wide and 28.3 cm deep, weighing about 4.1 kg. Mugs up to 13 cm tall fit with the drip tray removed.
De'Longhi describes an adjustable Cappuccino System steam wand (steamed milk or foam), a control panel with 4 buttons and a steam/hot-water knob, and adjustable coffee length.
Supplied with two double-wall (pressurised) filter baskets, a plastic tamper and a spoon. A US hands-on review notes that only pressurised baskets are supplied and that the steam wand struggles to make microfoam.
UK buyers most often praise how easy it is to use and how little worktop space it takes, including for first-time espresso users.
Most reviewers report good, hot espresso with crema and creamy milk drinks.
Several reviewers say that after using the steam wand the machine must cool down before it can brew again. The lights flash meanwhile, which slows down making several milk drinks in a row.
Reviewers say grind, dose, tamping and frothing take a few attempts to get right.
One buyer found the descaling process complicated and could not clear the descale warning light.
One UK buyer reports repeated problems within months and unhelpful De'Longhi customer service under the guarantee. Long-term reliability data is not available.
One detailed reviewer notes that the double basket holds only around 14 g and that temperature takes one or two shots to stabilise.
De'Longhi, John Lewis and Currys state a 2-year guarantee; the Argos listing states a 1-year manufacturer's guarantee.
Buyers like the stainless steel retro look and the front pressure gauge.
At the time of checking, the main UK retailers listed it between £171.99 (Amazon.co.uk) and £200.00 (Argos).
Several reviewers consider it good value for the coffee it makes.

Summarised from the 20 reviews we read. A review can mention several points, so the theme counts can add up to more than 20.
Owners commonly like the coffee flavour and crema, compact footprint and straightforward everyday controls. Routine cleaning and refilling are generally described as manageable, and some appreciate the milk frother once they have practised. The clearest recurring frustration is the wait or flashing lights when switching from steaming back to brewing, making consecutive milk-based drinks awkward for some users. Other criticisms include a learning curve with preparation and frothing, while an owner finds descaling and clearing its warning light particularly troublesome.
Summarised from 20 reviews; 1 reviews about delivery, packaging or the seller were left out. The summary is drawn from opinions that recur in the reviews read; each theme shows how many reviews mention it. These counts are not a rate and do not apply to every unit.

I’m very happy with my new coffee machine it’s a good size for a smaller space and very easy to use..It’s a really cool design and no complicated settings…my kitchen smells like a coffee shop in a morning now 😊☕️

I bought this a couple of weeks ago. . Still trying to fathom out how to do the coffee as I steam the milk first and then the lights just constantly flash. I end up turning it off at the mains then restarting the machine. Easy to clean up and easy to top up water tank. Just going through a lot of different brands and strengths of coffee now. 😁.

I am delighted with my new De'Longhi Classic coffee machine. It is much easier to use than I expected, and produces wonderful coffee time after time. It is also pretty quick, and is also very easy to clean.

I love my new coffee machine as it is not as bulky as alot of coffee machines out there and doesn't look like a sight for sore eyes on my worktop. It is sleek and stylish and the coffee tastes amazing. The parts do come off easily for cleaning and the refillable water tank is easy to remove. I love my built in milk frother! It did take me a while to get the hang of it but it's an absolute game changer for a hot drink.

I really like this little machine... it pays, if making more than one coffee to steam the milk when all coffees are made, otherwise you have to wait for the steamer to be ready again, due to safety feature, but the flavour/crema is really good. I'd buy this again certainly. Also, it's so easy to adjust the amount of coffee for one or two cups. A great feature.

Excellent machine for the price. Makes tasty coffee that is hot, not tepid warm - I always pour boiling water in my mug first to heat it before the coffee goes in. It has a large water tank so your no constantly filling it. All in all its easy to use, the milk frother can be a little messy but its reasonalby easy to clean.

We bought this machine as a Christmas present to ourselves. I have to say that I am seriously disappointed with it. If one uses the steam function to froth milk to make a cappuccino then it takes ages to cool down sufficiently to make another espresso, effectively the machine simple freezes and the lights all flash until it is ready to go again. To the point that your coffee is going to be cold before you make two cups. I am quite surprised at all the five star reviews this machine has received, I can't be the only one who would like to be able to make a cappuccino and then make another cup.

Made coffee but as soon as I used the milk frother it instanly will over heat and need 10 mins to cool and reset

I have read the guide, asked Google AI questions and watched videos, but I still can't remove the orange warning light on the steam wand. I find the whole process of descaling a complete nightmare and incredibly complicated. This whole process of descaling has put me off coffee machines and if this one grinds to a halt I will revert back to my coffee plunger. The build quality is good and it makes good coffee, but descaling is the bug bear for me.

Lovely machine that makes very creamy coffee. The water tank is easy to fill and clean. The handle is super smooth to close, no need to hold the machine to close it unlike most of the machine in the market. I'm honestly very happy about this purchase and I would recommend to anyone wants an Italian style coffee at home!

The De'Longhi LINEA Classic is a compact espresso maker that delivers performance very similar to the popular Dedica, featuring an integrated pressure gauge and a generous 1.7-litre water tank. Although the bundled portafilter and basket feel cheap, the machine produces hot, well-balanced espresso and can create decent microfoam once the Panarello sleeve is removed. Overall, it offers a solid and accessible entry point for home espresso enthusiasts.
YouTube · Review
The De'Longhi Linea Classic is a compact, budget-friendly semi-automatic espresso machine equipped with a built-in pressure gauge and a removable drip tray for taller cups. While it comes with basic pressurised baskets and a flimsy plastic tamper, it performs adequately out of the box for pre-ground coffee. With simple modifications, such as using an unpressurised basket and removing the Panarello sleeve, it is capable of producing impressively balanced espresso and proper microfoam.
YouTube · Review
The De'Longhi Classic EM450 is an affordable espresso machine with a solid build that is straightforward to use for various coffee drinks. While the included plastic tamper feels flimsy and the stainless finish picks up fingerprints easily, it represents solid value for home or office settings.
YouTube · Comparison
The De'Longhi Linea Classic is an affordable, attractive entry-level espresso machine that produces decent coffee quickly with minimal fuss. While it suffers from lightweight construction, a plasticky portafilter, and the omission of non-pressurised baskets, it remains a forgiving option for beginners. Enthusiasts seeking precise dial-in control or silky microfoam for latte art may want to look elsewhere.
