The Breville Prima Latte VCF183, also sold in white as the VCF190, is a compact semi-automatic espresso machine for ground coffee. It makes espresso, cappuccino and latte at one touch, drawing milk from a removable 550 ml tank that can go in the fridge. Buyers like how easy it is to use, its small footprint and the taste and froth of the drinks. Recurring complaints are lukewarm drinks, loud operation, a milk tank and frother that are fiddly to remove and clean, limited height for tall glasses, and faults within weeks or months on some units. It has no grinder, no hot-water outlet for tea and takes no pods. It suits beginners who want easy milky drinks in a small kitchen. People who want very hot drinks or proven long-term reliability should look elsewhere. No independent test result or long-term durability evidence is publicly available.

What the features mean in everyday use.
VCF183 (black) and VCF190 (white) are the same machine in two colours. They share one UK manual and have identical spec tables on Breville UK.
It is a semi-automatic portafilter machine that takes ground coffee only. It has no grinder, and Breville's answers on Argos confirm it takes no pods or beans.
An automatic milk system draws milk from a removable 550 ml tank that can be stored in the fridge. One touch makes espresso, cappuccino or latte, and manual espresso and manual frothing modes are also available.
There is no hot-water outlet for tea, and according to Argos Q&A answers it cannot heat milk on its own.
Many reviewers find it simple to set up and use, including first-time espresso machine owners.
Reviewers often praise the taste and creaminess of the espresso, lattes and cappuccinos.
Several reviewers like the automatic frothing, including with soya and oat milk. Others say the froth is weaker than on their previous machine.
Some buyers say the drinks or milk come out only lukewarm, even when the cup is pre-warmed.
Several buyers on Amazon, Argos and Currys report faults within weeks or months: frothing stopped, cleaning or descaling cycles would not complete, or the machine would not work. These reviews show the faults happen but cannot give a failure rate.
Several reviewers say it is loud when frothing or brewing, and one says it vibrates the cup on the drip tray.
Some reviewers say the milk tank is hard to pull off and the frother's many small parts are fiddly to clean. Leftover milk kept in the tank can go off or smell.
Some reviewers say tall latte glasses do not fit or are hard to remove without spilling, and that cappuccinos do not fill a standard cappuccino cup.
Reviewers like the compact footprint for small kitchens and find it easy to clean, mainly thanks to the removable parts.
Many of the 5-star reviews come from Breville promotions or product testers (marked as collected during a promotion, 'Trusted Tester', or Vine). Reviews from buyers on Currys and Amazon are noticeably more mixed.
Breville UK lists a 24-month replacement guarantee if the machine is registered within 90 days. Which? and a Breville answer on Argos give 1 year as standard, so the second year appears to depend on registration.
Retailer listings disagree on several specs: water tank (1 to 1.65 L), milk tank (460 or 550 ml), weight, dimensions, power (Argos says 240 W) and cup warmer. Breville UK's own figures are used here.
Opinions on value are split. Some buyers call it fine for the money, while those whose machine developed faults say it is not worth the price.

User experience
See the common points first, then read the original reviews yourself.
Summarised from the 50 reviews we read. A review can mention several points, so the theme counts can add up to more than 50.
Owners like how simple it is to make a latte or cappuccino at the touch of a button, and many praise the taste of the coffee and the automatic froth, including with oat and soya milk. They also like the compact size, and some value the fridge-storable milk tank. The complaints are consistent. Some buyers find drinks only lukewarm. Others report units that stopped frothing or would not finish cleaning or descaling cycles within weeks or months. It is noticeably loud, the milk tank can be awkward to remove, and the frother has small parts that are fiddly to clean. Tall latte glasses are a tight fit. The most enthusiastic reviews often come from Breville promotions or testers who had used it briefly, while ordinary buyers are more divided.
Summarised from 50 reviews. The summary is drawn from opinions that recur in the reviews read; each theme shows how many reviews mention it. These counts are not a rate and do not apply to every unit.
50 unique text reviews, deduplicated by author, date and text: Amazon UK 11 (/dp/ page; 2 from Ireland), Argos 10 (newest shown), Currys/Feefo 24 (plus 4 rating-only, not counted), and Breville UK 5 beyond the 3 that duplicate Argos. Theme counts are minimums. Amazon's and Argos's AI summaries were used only as a cross-check, and both broadly match this sample.

ive bought 2 breville coffee machines in the last 3 years this one and the previous one with the silver face costing a total of £349 The one i bought in October 2025 has now failed did not even last a year. It seems to me that the descaling mechanism sometimes wont complete the descale cycle. so basically I've purchased 2 breville coffee machines that did not even last 3 years. …

Not great. Stopped doing cleaning cycles a few months after buying. Couldn't figure out what the error message/flashing lights meant. Amazon offered to take it away for free for repairs. Was told machine was faulty, refunded.

It makes nice coffee ,milk is frothed to perfection really thick, Can froth soya milk and oat as well. Love the smell of freshly brewed coffee Ensure you prime it by following cleaning instructions before using first time. Update : Frothing stopped working after 2 weeks , I have cleaned it after each use too , shame but not worth that much money

We have used this coffee machine for three months now and find it excellent for making our coffee. We don't use the milk frother, preferring another method, but this is our personal choice.
n*** 4/5 19 September 2025 Amazon Amazon Vine review of a free product
A wonderful little coffee machine that makes not only espressos, but also lattes and cappuccinos too. This is a nice design, well made, easy to use. … The machine can be a little noisy when making the coffees, nothing too terrible though, it can however make your cup vibrate down the drip tray a little…

I bought this to replace a 11 year old delonghi which had done sterling service as it looked like it had similar features. Overall it brews a good cappuccino but the milk is nowhere near as frothy and the machine is really noisy when making it. It takes ages for the milk frother part to warm up. It's a bit fiddly to use the self clean feature too.
C*** 2/5 18 June 2026 Argos
Been using a few weeks now and already it's barely functioning. It struggles to get the milk out of the attachment and frothed so my lattes have no substance and could fit in an eggcup. For the money it's disappointing and Argos have been little help.
A*** 5/5 22 April 2026 Argos
This coffee maker is extremely easy to use. Not at all complicated. Also not too large for the smaller kitchen. Frothing is very easy and works well. I am really happy with this. Highly recommended.
C*** 3/5 19 April 2026 Argos
A great coffee machine apart from the milk only being lukewarm. May have been a fault with mine but had to return it.
C*** 5/5 14 April 2026 Argos
This is a really good coffee machine. Simple to use and it is consistent with the outcome. It's really easy to clean and the frothing is excellent. Would recommend. The option to customize it yourself (manual drink) is welcomed.
B*** 3/5 29 March 2026 Argos
Overall it makes decent coffee. The milk frother is annoying to wash. The description says you can store leftover milk in it, but it does end up going off. Theres lots of small parts on the frother, which are tricky to clean, and end up smelling of old milk. As a newbie to making coffee, it's easy to use. …

I bought this to replace the Breville one touch coffee machine that had broken, assuming it to be the newer version, but it's nowhere near as good .
