At a glance

The Breville Prima Latte VCF183, also sold in white as the VCF190, is a compact semi-automatic espresso machine for ground coffee. It makes espresso, cappuccino and latte at one touch, drawing milk from a removable 550 ml tank that can go in the fridge. Buyers like how easy it is to use, its small footprint and the taste and froth of the drinks. Recurring complaints are lukewarm drinks, loud operation, a milk tank and frother that are fiddly to remove and clean, limited height for tall glasses, and faults within weeks or months on some units. It has no grinder, no hot-water outlet for tea and takes no pods. It suits beginners who want easy milky drinks in a small kitchen. People who want very hot drinks or proven long-term reliability should look elsewhere. No independent test result or long-term durability evidence is publicly available.

Strengths

  • One-touch espresso, cappuccino and latte with automatic frothing, plus manual espresso and manual froth modes
  • Reviewers find it easy to set up and use, including first-time owners
  • Coffee taste and milk froth often praised, including with oat and soya milk
Show all (4)
  • Compact design suited to small kitchens, with removable parts that make cleaning easier

Things to consider

  • Some buyers report drinks and milk coming out only lukewarm
  • Reports of faults within weeks or months: frothing stopped, cleaning or descaling cycles failed, or the machine would not work
  • Loud when frothing or brewing
Show all (6)
  • Milk tank can be hard to remove and the frother's small parts are fiddly to clean
  • Limited room for tall latte glasses
  • Ground coffee only, with no grinder, no pods and no hot-water outlet
Who is it for, and who is it not for?

Good for

  • Beginners who want lattes and cappuccinos at the touch of a button using ground coffee
  • Small kitchens where counter space is limited

May not suit

  • People who like their milky drinks very hot
  • Anyone who wants to grind fresh beans, use pods, or get hot water for tea
  • Households wanting a quiet machine or one that takes tall latte glasses

Owners like how simple it is to make a latte or cappuccino at the touch of a button, and many praise the taste of the coffee and the automatic froth, including with oat and soya milk. They also like the compact size, and some value the fridge-storable milk tank. The complaints are consistent. Some buyers find drinks only lukewarm. Others report units that stopped frothing or would not finish cleaning or descaling cycles within weeks or months. It is noticeably loud, the milk tank can be awkward to remove, and the frother has small parts that are fiddly to clean. Tall latte glasses are a tight fit. The most enthusiastic reviews often come from Breville promotions or testers who had used it briefly, while ordinary buyers are more divided.

How was this summary made?

Summarised from 50 reviews. The summary is drawn from opinions that recur in the reviews read; each theme shows how many reviews mention it. These counts are not a rate and do not apply to every unit.

50 unique text reviews, deduplicated by author, date and text: Amazon UK 11 (/dp/ page; 2 from Ireland), Argos 10 (newest shown), Currys/Feefo 24 (plus 4 rating-only, not counted), and Breville UK 5 beyond the 3 that duplicate Argos. Theme counts are minimums. Amazon's and Argos's AI summaries were used only as a cross-check, and both broadly match this sample.

ive bought 2 breville coffee machines in the last 3 years this one and the previous one with the silver face costing a total of £349 The one i bought in October 2025 has now failed did not even last a year. It seems to me that the descaling mechanism sometimes wont complete the descale cycle. so basically I've purchased 2 breville coffee machines that did not even last 3 years. …

  2. p*** 1/5 12 April 2026 Amazon

Not great. Stopped doing cleaning cycles a few months after buying. Couldn't figure out what the error message/flashing lights meant. Amazon offered to take it away for free for repairs. Was told machine was faulty, refunded.

  3. I*** l*** 2/5 11 February 2026 Amazon

It makes nice coffee ,milk is frothed to perfection really thick, Can froth soya milk and oat as well. Love the smell of freshly brewed coffee Ensure you prime it by following cleaning instructions before using first time. Update : Frothing stopped working after 2 weeks , I have cleaned it after each use too , shame but not worth that much money

  5. J*** M*** 5/5 14 August 2026 Amazon

Great espresso maker with auto frothing

  6. T*** 5/5 2 August 2026 Amazon

We have used this coffee machine for three months now and find it excellent for making our coffee. We don't use the milk frother, preferring another method, but this is our personal choice.

  7. n*** 4/5 19 September 2025 Amazon Amazon Vine review of a free product

A wonderful little coffee machine that makes not only espressos, but also lattes and cappuccinos too. This is a nice design, well made, easy to use. … The machine can be a little noisy when making the coffees, nothing too terrible though, it can however make your cup vibrate down the drip tray a little…

  8. A*** 4/5 15 August 2026 Argos

I bought this to replace a 11 year old delonghi which had done sterling service as it looked like it had similar features. Overall it brews a good cappuccino but the milk is nowhere near as frothy and the machine is really noisy when making it. It takes ages for the milk frother part to warm up. It's a bit fiddly to use the self clean feature too.

  9. C*** 2/5 18 June 2026 Argos

Been using a few weeks now and already it's barely functioning. It struggles to get the milk out of the attachment and frothed so my lattes have no substance and could fit in an eggcup. For the money it's disappointing and Argos have been little help.

  10. A*** 5/5 22 April 2026 Argos

This coffee maker is extremely easy to use. Not at all complicated. Also not too large for the smaller kitchen. Frothing is very easy and works well. I am really happy with this. Highly recommended.

  11. C*** 3/5 19 April 2026 Argos

A great coffee machine apart from the milk only being lukewarm. May have been a fault with mine but had to return it.

  12. C*** 5/5 14 April 2026 Argos

This is a really good coffee machine. Simple to use and it is consistent with the outcome. It's really easy to clean and the frothing is excellent. Would recommend. The option to customize it yourself (manual drink) is welcomed.

  13. B*** 3/5 29 March 2026 Argos

Overall it makes decent coffee. The milk frother is annoying to wash. The description says you can store leftover milk in it, but it does end up going off. Theres lots of small parts on the frother, which are tricky to clean, and end up smelling of old milk. As a newbie to making coffee, it's easy to use. …

It seemed value for the money but only lasted a month and stopped frothing the milk.

  17. E*** 1/5 7 March 2026 Currys

  20. Customer 2/5 31 October 2025 Currys White VCF190 (Currys item 10290061)

I bought this to replace the Breville one touch coffee machine that had broken, assuming it to be the newer version, but it's nowhere near as good . The coffee is cold even when I heat the cup, but the worst thing is removing the milk canister, it's so hard to pull off as no release button, it feels like it's going to snap, …

  22. J*** H*** 3/5 31 January 2026 Currys Syndicated from Breville

Okay for the money, it does the job and it makes a decent enough coffee. Quick set-up and looks neat and compact on the side. Only used a couple of times, first machine with internal milk frother. Quick to clean. Just make sure you fully wash through any milk residue. …

  23. T*** T*** 5/5 25 January 2026 Currys Breville product tester, syndicated

Absolutely superb piece of kit!! Completely user friendly and makes a cracking coffee, latte, espresso, cappuccino and even frothy milk for a chai latte! Love the milk container, use, take out and keep in the fridge until needed next!

  25. N*** 5/5 9 January 2026 breville.co.uk

set up was easy and i was ready to make a coffee in minutes! I love that it brews the coffee at the sane time as the milk! … It was easy to clean for next use, no more than any other machine i've used!

  26. b*** 5/5 31 January 2026 breville.co.uk

The removable milk container allows you to make more than one hot drink with milk … The only downside, it is quiet loud. No chance for a quiet coffe in the morning

  27. B*** N*** 5/5 8 February 2026 breville.co.uk

Absolutely amazing coffee maker. This will get you a coffee same as you would get is coffee shops. … It is easy to clean too.

How we evaluate, and the limits

This page is compiled from manufacturer, store, review and video sources; every piece of information links to the source it was read from. Technical values are as stated by the manufacturer or store; user experiences are summarised from the reviews read and do not apply to every unit. We do not test products ourselves.
