The Swan Nordic SK22110GRYN is a budget manual pump espresso machine: 1100 W, 15 bar, a 1.2 L tank and a steam wand, in a matte Scandinavian-style body. Owners like its looks, compact size and ease of use, and say it makes good espresso and milky drinks for the price, especially with fresh espresso-grind coffee. The compromises are typical of the price. Normal mugs do not fit under the spout. The steam wand is short and fixed. The plastic body feels light and can stain. Some units taste of plastic until flushed well. There is no timer, cup warmer or programmable shot. It suits beginners and occasional espresso or latte drinkers who want a stylish, inexpensive machine. Enthusiasts wanting milk texturing control or sturdier build should look higher up. Long-term durability is not independently documented.
Before you buy
What the features mean in everyday use.
SK22110GRYN is Swan's Nordic Pump Espresso Coffee Machine in Slate Grey, EAN 5055322539696; Amazon.co.uk lists the same model and part number with a Cotton White colour option on the same listing.
1100 W pump espresso machine rated at 15 bar, with a 1.2 L removable water tank, die-cast boiler, 1 or 2 cups at once and a removable drip tray.
Takes ground coffee and ESE pods (not beans); milk is steamed with a manual steam pipe with steam pressure control.
Compact footprint: about 31 cm high, 19.4 cm wide and 28.4 cm deep, weighing about 3.4 kg with a 100 cm cord.
No timer, cup warmer, water filter or programmable shot volume; AO lists no auto shut-off and the shot must be stopped manually.
Swan and AO state a 2-year manufacturer warranty; Lakeland advertises a 3-year guarantee on its listing.
Owners most often praise the look: stylish, modern-retro design that suits the kitchen.
Many buyers find it quick to set up and easy to use, including first-time espresso makers, though a few found the instruction booklet confusing at first.
Buyers report good espresso with decent crema for the money; results depend on using fresh espresso-grind coffee and firm tamping.
Value for money is a frequent positive; reviewers see it as a capable budget or entry-level machine.
Several owners note that a normal-sized mug does not fit under the portafilter; espresso cups are needed unless the drip tray is removed.
The steam wand is described as short and fixed in angle, awkward with larger jugs and with small amounts of milk; some struggle to get milk hot enough.
Some owners noticed a plastic or chemical taste at first; most cleared it by flushing water (or a vinegar rinse) several times, but one gave 1 star for it.
The plastic body feels light or flimsy to some; one owner says it slides around on the worktop when the portafilter is fitted.
Staining of the plastic housing and drip tray from coffee splashes is a recurring complaint on Amazon.co.uk (including grey units); one AO owner found the grey less prone to staining than lighter colours.
Isolated failure reports: one steam function stopped after two days, and another machine died after about two years of use. Long-term reliability is not independently documented.
Which? has tested this model (first reviewed July 2020) but its score and verdict are behind a paywall.
Ideal Grind's short-term test of the cotton white Nordic found 'a very good espresso indeed' for the price, slightly mild unless the basket is packed firmly, and a small but effective steam wand (best with full-fat milk).
A number of owners are happy with milk frothing, saying it gives thick foam or hot milk and adjusts easily.
No milk jug is included; buyers mention needing to buy one separately.
The Nordic shares the SK22110 base code and identical core specs with the Swan Retro pump espresso, and AO pools reviews for both ranges, so it is most likely the same machine in a different housing.

Summarised from the 88 reviews we read. A review can mention several points, so the theme counts can add up to more than 88.
Owners mostly see this as a stylish, compact entry-level espresso machine that is easy to learn and makes good espresso and milky drinks for the money. The most common complaints are practical. Standard mugs do not fit under the portafilter. The steam wand is short and fixed, which makes larger jugs or small amounts of milk awkward. The plastic body feels light, and coffee splashes can stain it. Some owners noticed a plastic taste until they flushed the machine several times. A few reported faults, including a steam function failing within days and a machine dying after about two years. Using fresh espresso-grind coffee and tamping firmly is a recurring tip.

The coffee has a suspiciously chemical/plastic taste which is dreadful and could be harmful.

Nice looking machine … But unfortunately the frother/ steam function packed up after just 2 days … Not particularly sturdy build
J*** 3/5 17 July 2024 Amazon Nordic Grey
I owned this machine for 2 years before it died on me. … The steam wand is...yikes. It's built with a curve that you cannot change, and is therefore too short for many types of jugs.

Great little coffee machine, Lovely colour. … Have to use a few times to get the plastic taste out of my coffee, and cant get a mug under have to have smaller cups. Other than that its a good coffee machine
J*** L*** 4/5 No date ao-retail-ltd (Feefo) Nordic Grey (AO)
Things about it could be better such as a directional arrow to help you put the portafilter in correctly, and a larger gap between the portafilter and the drip tray would be good - a normal sized mug will not fit! Yet to use the milk frother so cannot comment. But, that being said, it is a great little machine at a bargain price and looks great in our kitchen.

… Milk frothing wand is a little short. Would struggle steaming/frothing small amounts of milk. …
K*** 4/5 No date ao-retail-ltd (Feefo) Nordic Grey (AO)
… Only reason for not giving 5 stars is that the outer shell is plastic and feels a little flimsy but considering the price its a fab little machine.
r*** 4/5 14 July 2026 Amazon Nordic Grey
For the money, it's surprisingly good, coffee tastes nice, not as a nice as the gaggia but nice enough that I decided to keep this one for as long as it works. … The obvious negative owning it, is it feels cheap, light and plasticy. It is, for good reason, it's such good value, the price v performance is very good.

Great little machine for the money. Only little thing that I dislike is that it moves around too easily as it’s not that heavy. Sucker pads on the bottom would probably help with it. Apart from that it’s a pretty decent machine
C*** 5/5 20 September 2021 ao-retail-ltd (Feefo) Nordic Grey (AO)
Beautiful design and feel. Comes with a handy booklet to explain how to make coffees (eg steaming milk properly). … Only issues is that the space under the coffee filter is short and won’t fit a normal mug - only espresso cups. The milk wand is also quite short but for a compact, budget machine, …

Great little coffee machine, just need to perfect getting the milk hotter .. make sure you buy ground coffee for espresso machine as it makes a difference. Also love how it looks!

Bought as a gift for my husband, who is a bit of a coffee snob and he is very happy with it. The instruction booklet is a little confusing, but getting the hang of it after a couple of attempts and made some great drinks.

This is a lovely budget machine, a bit more plastic than I thought but ideal for those not wanting to spend hundred and even thousands ...overall a great product that makes lovely coffee ..

This was to replace my very old Swan Espresso Maker, which had been used every day. So good, I bought it again!
L*** 5/5 No date ao-retail-ltd (Feefo) Nordic Grey (AO)
Really good entry level product to make a decent coffee, how good it is depends on the coffee you choose!! Once you have learnt how to use it then it is quite quick to use. I recommend a milk thermometer to put in the jug as your steaming it to make sure its getting hot enough. Overall we're really pleased with it

Works great. Easy to set up and had my first coffee in 10 minutes ??. One tip is to make sure to follow the instructions and make the coffee before heating the milk! …

Replaced an old expresso machine with this up to date but retro machine. Wow what an upgrade. Fantastic Crema coffee is now so smooth. Milk frother produces thick foam or hot milk so easy to adjust. So simple to use this machine to get the coffee you want as you are in total control.

Impressed. A good crema and the grounds are dry making emptying non messy. A lot better than my previous coffee maker.
V*** S*** 5/5 No date ao-retail-ltd (Feefo) Nordic Grey (AO)
Really good value product and compact enough to not take over the kitchen. The style is great too. Looks expensive and the I like that the steamer is metal and not plastic like some I've had in the past.
K*** 5/5 No date ao-retail-ltd (Feefo) Nordic Grey (AO)
Sharp design and works well. The grey is not as, vulnerable to staining as other lighter colours
S*** 5/5 No date ao-retail-ltd (Feefo) Nordic Grey (AO)
Does everything you need it to, looks great and is an absolute bargain! … Tip: If you don’t already have an espresso sized mug then buy one to use with this. A normal sized mug doesn’t fit in the space provided unless you remove the drip tray.

Looks beautiful. Good size for a kitchen surface. Makes nice coffee for people that aren’t overly fussy about excellent coffee

This is lovely, well worth the money & very easy to use. A coffee lovers dream. Mine gets a lot of use & works well with a ground expresso from a local tea & coffee merchants.
