The Sage Duo-Temp Pro is a compact, hands-on espresso machine for ground coffee, with a 15 bar pump, a PID-controlled Thermocoil heater, a 54 mm portafilter and a manual steam wand. Owners praise its espresso, simple dial operation, solid stainless steel build and capable steam wand, and some report years of reliable daily use. It is deliberately basic. There is no grinder, no automatic shot stop and no low-water warning, and you can't brew and steam at once, so good results take practice and ideally a quality grinder. Recurring complaints are espresso that is not hot enough for some, a small tank, a drip tray that fills quickly and noise. It suits people learning manual espresso on a budget, not those who want push-button convenience. It is a 2014 design that several big UK retailers no longer stock, and no independent long-term reliability data was available.

What the features mean in everyday use.
The Duo-Temp Pro uses a 15 bar pump and a 1600 W Thermocoil heater with PID temperature control. It has a 54 mm portafilter and is worked by a single dial.
The machine takes ground coffee only and has no built-in grinder. Shot volume is controlled by hand, with no programmable or automatic stop. Milk is textured by hand with a steam wand.
It has a 1.8 litre water tank. Sage gives the size as 33.5 x 25.6 x 31.8 cm (W x D x H), and Which? gives the weight as 6.7 kg.
Sage says the machine uses low-pressure pre-infusion and purges the heater automatically after steaming so the next shot is at the right temperature.
The box includes single- and dual-wall (pressurised) 1-cup and 2-cup baskets, a stainless steel milk jug, a Razor dose trimming tool, an integrated magnetic tamper and a water filter.
Sage gives a 2-year repair, replace or refund guarantee, and John Lewis confirms a 2-year guarantee is included.
Good espresso and coffee taste is the most common praise in John Lewis, Currys and Amazon.co.uk reviews. Some owners compare it to coffee-shop quality.
Many reviewers call it simple and easy to use and clean, and some like its lack of extra features.
Owners often describe the brushed stainless steel body as solid, well made and attractive on the worktop.
Many reviewers say the steam wand textures milk well and quickly for lattes and flat whites.
A minority find the steam wand slow, weak, hard to froth with or noisy. Some say it gets noisier over time.
Many owners say good shots take practice. Several say a separate quality grinder is needed to get the most from it, especially with the non-pressurised baskets.
Some reviewers say the espresso is not hot enough or lukewarm, despite the PID temperature control.
Recurring complaints cover the small tank, which sits at the back with no low-water warning, a tank handle some find flimsy, and a drip tray that fills quickly (partly from purge water) or leaks.
Several reviewers find the pump and steaming loud.
A few owners report years of trouble-free daily use, including one after about 7 years and one after 10 years, and some are on their second machine. This is anecdotal and does not show a reliability rate.
Some buyers did not expect how manual it is. There is no automatic shot stop, you cannot brew and steam at the same time, and a few wished they had bought a more automatic or grinder-equipped model.
A small number of reviewers could not get good espresso, reporting watery shots, little crema or not enough pressure. Some returned the machine.
Several reviewers think it is good value, especially when bought at a discount. A few find the price steep compared with cheaper machines, or dislike the ongoing cost of water filters.
A few reviewers say the portafilter and baskets are very tight to fit and remove.
In late October 2026 the machine was on sale new from Sage UK, John Lewis and Amazon.co.uk, while Currys, Argos, AO and Ozone Coffee no longer listed it. It is an older design: Which? gives January 2014 as its release date.

Summarised from the 172 reviews we read. A review can mention several points, so the theme counts can add up to more than 172.
Owners mostly praise the Duo-Temp Pro for rich, café-style espresso, simple dial operation and a solid, good-looking stainless steel build. Many say the steam wand makes good milk for lattes and flat whites. Some owners report years of daily use without problems. The main caveat is that it is a hands-on machine: good shots take practice, and many recommend a decent separate grinder. Some buyers wanted more automation, such as an automatic shot stop or brewing and steaming at once. Recurring complaints are espresso that is not hot enough, a small rear tank with no low-water warning, a drip tray that fills quickly or leaks, and noise. A minority find the steam wand weak or noisy, struggle with weak or watery shots, or find the portafilter very tight. Reviewers often call it good value when discounted.

It is a good machine but you will need to buy a good grinder to make the machine work to its full capabilities You also will have to put in some effort to learn expresso making.
S*** 1/5 1 June 2026 John Lewis
Not up to the task: … this particular model has proven unsuccessful and quite frankly, useless. … My model does not have enough pressure to handle the job. Does not produce a decent crema, nor enough volume. There are better models available.
i*** 5/5 7 May 2026 John Lewis
Still nice and capable machine, even after 10 years: … PROS: Nice-looking machine … Good size … Excellent results for espresso, milk steaming, and hot water for americanos. CONS: It would be nice to have a programmable button for automatic volume control … I would prefer a non-burning steam wand…
B*** 5/5 2 May 2026 John Lewis
Recently purchased during a price reduction. My First Sage machine and I think it is outstanding value for money … For less than 400 pounds this machine really delivers hot water and delicious coffee.
G*** 4/5 23 March 2026 John Lewis
Great coffee but needs effort: … It takes lots of practice to get a good coffee, especially a Flat white. … there is no warning when water is low & the tank is at back of the machine … the frother has become extremely noisy … I wish I had bought a more expensive model that grinds…
T*** 3/5 8 December 2025 John Lewis
Sadly, a little underwhelmed with this model. Nothing wrong with the coffee it makes, but its level of basic is a little too extreme. No low water level cut out, so easy to run the pump dry … a small water capacity and need for a separate grinder … Regretting my decision to not get the touch

Machine is ok. Good: Speed, stylish and easy to use. Poor: coffee is not hot enough
K*** 5/5 19 March 2025 John Lewis API page 2
Very good!: … This consistently produces a great cup of espresso. It feels a solid product and a good design. I welcome choosing how much water to put in each cup … It has a two year guarantee … The John Lewis price is good. This is my first week of use but so far I am pleased with what I purchased.
S*** E*** 2/5 3 February 2025 John Lewis API page 2
Not great, item returned: … Espresso temperature was not hot enough, shots were consistently luke warm. … The drip tray was a nightmare and would leak everywhere … I really didn't like the smaller 54mm portafilter … The steam wand took ages to heat milk … significantly less robust than my Gaggia.
M*** 1/5 9 January 2024 John Lewis API page 5
Noisy and not user friendly: … a coffee machine that sounds like an old airplane winding up for take off and is so sensitive to how much coffee and tamping you do and has portafilters that bust your finger nails trying to change them …no thanks! Returned it same day.

Brilliant machine ,this is my third coffee machine each one was a stage better ,this one is the best i have had upto now ,it makes great tasting coffee and i can taste the coffee beans with this one ,i have used all the three baskets that come with it and found the double cup basket with the smaller holes in give me best results and crema… can recommend

I've had this coming up to 7 years now, and it's been used daily… It's never let me done once, never broken, needed repairs or replacement parts. I live in a soft water area so that's helped I think… It's incredibly easy to use, is ready to go after 30 seconds from flushing the head, has a PID so guaranteed temperature, is pretty rudimentary in a good way so little to go wrong.
M*** H*** 5/5 1 June 2021 Amazon
There's a water filter in the water container. This needs replacing every three months and so is an ongoing additional expense. The handle on the water container is a pain… It is also flimsy, uncomfortable, and looks like it would break at the drop of a hat… You have to brew coffee and then steam your milk. You can't do both simultaneously… I think the Sage Dup Temp Pro is a good place to start with home espresso…
T*** F*** 5/5 19 May 2020 Amazon
This machine is incredible… This machine is much cheaper than some of the top of the range ones but makes coffee to the same level if you know what your doing… If you want to froth milk it does a cracking job… I have had one of these for over two years along with the grinder… this one is worth the price and then some!
A*** P*** 5/5 19 June 2018 Amazon
It is not a cheap machine but you can see where the money has been spent… A word of caution - the cool down puts a fair bit of water into the drip tray… The steam wand works very well, but… you don't get steam immediately… Financially, the Sage doesn't make much sense at all because you can get decent results… with the cheaper machine… The only question is will it last? The 2 year warranty is encouraging…
L*** 4/5 9 January 2018 Amazon
…it is a heavy well constructed stainless steel… The steam wand heats the milk very quickly, roughly 20 seconds from milk to froth… Cons: Cup warmer isn't great. Although I admit you are getting a great quality machine, I find the price a bit steep. (£262.20 at the time of this review) … I have no problem recommending it to others
S*** 5/5 1 January 2025 Currys
Aesthetically pleasing machine which makes beautiful tasting coffee. Sits on our worktop perfectly. Very easy to use without a fuss. Exactly what we'd been searching for at a comfortable price. Would highly recommended.

Good Points: Gives great tasting coffee with great crema. Improvement Points: Bit chunky and loud, but minor points when the coffee is good
N*** 4/5 30 December 2022 Currys
Good Points: Very well made. Improvement Points: Some water leaks from below the storage tank
Y*** 4/5 2 September 2022 Currys
Good Points: Good machine, very high quality and produces great coffee. Improvement Points: I wasn't aware when purchasing that there's no automatic stop button on the machine so you have to stop the coffee manually. … can ruin coffee if go overboard
R*** 1/5 22 December 2021 Currys
Improvement Points: Does not heat water to correct temp - or at least to a warm temp
E*** 3/5 7 December 2021 Currys
Good Points: Looks stunning, East to use. Improvement Points: Poor quality of coffee, liquid that comes out us but espresso, it is very watery, more like americano style
B*** 5/5 28 January 2021 Currys
Good Points: Great machine, perfect temperature from the first cup. Very easy to use, quick to heat up and easy to clean. … Great purchase.
T*** C*** 1/5 16 February 2017 Currys
Good Points: This looked fab in my kitchen. It is a big attractive coffee machine with a super metal milk jug. Improvement Points: Sadly its good looks were its only good point as the frother did not froth and the coffee was weak. It was also extremely fiddly to set up. So I am afraid it went back and I could not recommend it.

The presenter unboxes and demonstrates the Sage / Breville Duo-Temp Pro espresso machine, testing its shot extraction, steaming capabilities, and temperature control. It comes with a generous set of accessories, including four filter baskets and a magnetic tamper, and features an easy-to-use selector dial. The machine reliably maintains consistent brewing temperature and steams milk well, making it a solid entry-level espresso machine.

The Sage Duo Temp Pro is a competent, entry-level manual espresso machine featuring low-pressure pre-infusion, a PID temperature feedback loop, and a generous 1.8-litre water tank. With fully manual shot pulling via a simple dial, it gives users precise control over yield and ratio, distinguishing it from automated models like the Bambino Plus. It delivers impressive steam performance and solid build quality, making it very competitive at its price point when paired with a good grinder.
YouTube · Review
The Sage Duo-Temp Pro is a well-built, semi-automatic espresso machine that delivers cafe-quality espresso and milk texturing at a reasonable price point. While its single boiler requires a short delay between brewing and steaming and operation is fully manual, it offers features such as PID temperature control and pre-infusion that make it an excellent choice for aspiring home baristas.
YouTube · Review
The Sage Duo-Temp Pro makes really good coffee that far outperforms standard home machines and approaches coffee shop quality. It features sturdy, heavy-duty build quality and practical capabilities like dual heating and a hot water dispenser. For under £250 second-hand, the presenters find it remarkably good value.
