The De'Longhi Rivelia EXAM440.55.W is a slim, Arctic White bean-to-cup machine with a 3.5-inch touchscreen, 16 one-touch drinks, 4 user profiles, an automatic LatteCrema Hot milk carafe and two swappable 250 g bean hoppers. Owners consistently praise its ease of use, coffee quality and easy switching to decaf; independent reviewers rate it highly but call it expensive. Drawbacks: drinks can be too cool for those who like them very hot, daily cleaning is needed, the water tank and grounds bin are small, and a minority report sensor faults or leaks with slow repairs. Long-term reliability data is not available. Best for households wanting café-style drinks with little effort in a narrow space; not for those wanting manual milk control or very hot drinks. In the UK the white version is sold mainly by De'Longhi and Amazon.

What the features mean in everyday use.
The Rivelia EXAM440.55 has a 19 bar pump, 1450 W power, a Thermoblock heater and a removable 1.4 L water tank.
Two interchangeable 250 g bean hoppers (Bean Switch System) let owners swap beans, for example regular and decaf. Switch mode clears the grinder by brewing a final coffee or by grinding the remaining beans away.
A 3.5-inch full-touch colour display offers 16 one-touch drinks and up to 4 user profiles. De'Longhi says the menu learns the owner's routine through the day.
LatteCrema Hot makes milk foam automatically in a dishwasher-safe carafe and cleans itself after use. LatteCrema Cool for cold milk drinks is a separately sold upgrade set that unlocks 6 more drinks.
At 245 mm wide (245 x 430 x 385 mm), the machine is narrow for a bean-to-cup model. TechRadar called its slim profile a key advantage for small kitchens.
Ease of setup and daily use is the most common praise in the reviews read. Owners highlight the clear touchscreen guidance and the prompts for cleaning, descaling, filters and water.
Many reviewers say espresso and coffee quality is excellent or café-like, often compared with pod machines or older bean-to-cup machines.
Owners value the adjustable strength, size and temperature, the saved profiles, and the easy switch between two bean types such as decaf.
A recurring complaint is that coffee and especially milk drinks are not hot enough for people who like very hot drinks, even on the highest setting. Some reviewers find the temperature ideal. TechRadar notes the hot water reaches only about 80°C, too cool for most black teas.
A minority of reviewers report faults. These include a persistent false 'empty grounds container' warning, water leaking into the grounds area, and failures after a few months to 18 months, with complaints about slow repairs. Store reviews cannot show a failure rate.
Daily upkeep (rinsing, emptying the tray, cleaning milk parts) is needed. Some owners find the grinder chute hard to reach and descaling messy. Others say maintenance is easy thanks to the automatic rinse and the dishwasher-safe parts.
Some owners find the water tank and grounds bin small, so they need frequent refilling and emptying with heavy use.
A few John Lewis reviewers criticise milk frothing or milk heat. One reports milk curdling in the LatteCrema system. Most reviewers praise the frother.
Several reviewers call the machine expensive or pricey, though most of them say it is worth it for regular coffee drinkers. TechRadar and Expert Reviews list price as their main con.
In the UK the Arctic White EXAM440.55.W is sold by De'Longhi's own store and by Amazon.co.uk, both at £749.99 on 26 Oct 2026. Currys, John Lewis and Argos list only the black, grey and beige EXAM440.55 versions.

TechRadar rated the Rivelia 5/5 for excellent results, compact size, Bean Adapt and milk frothing. Its cons were the high price, the possibility that it is still too big for some kitchens, and a milk carafe that 'requires a little more TLC'. Which? has tested the model (released Oct 2023, first reviewed Jan 2024), but its score is paywalled.
TechRadar estimates running costs of up to about £76 a year. It assumes a water filter replaced every 2-3 months and monthly descaling with De'Longhi descaler.

Owners mostly praise how easy the Rivelia is to set up and use, with clear touchscreen guidance and reminders for cleaning, descaling and refills. They also praise the café-style coffee, the personalisation through saved profiles, and the twin bean hoppers that make switching to decaf simple. The automatic milk carafe is generally liked. Complaints come from a minority but recur. Drinks, especially milky ones, are not hot enough for people who like them very hot. A few owners report faults such as a persistent false 'empty grounds' warning or leaks, and slow repairs. The machine needs daily upkeep, and the water tank and grounds bin feel small for heavy use. Making a great cup of coffee could not be any easier using this De’Longhi Rivelia machine! I have this coffee machine for almost 10 months now and use it everyday! It can make so many different types of coffee and changing from one to a different coffee bean is ever so easy. The milk frothier makes really nice warm milk for those who prefer milk based coffee. Even my husband got into drinking coffee because of how good and convenient it is!

The secret is simply that you have to follow the maintenance properly. It does require cleaning basically after every use (rinsing, emptying the tray, and sorting the milk parts) which can definitely get a bit annoying when you are in a rush. But if you actually take care of it and follow the routine, it runs with zero issues. If you don't mind the daily upkeep, it's totally worth it.

This machine has paid for itself over and over. Can't fault it at all. This best coffee I get all day is the one I make myself before work. And because it fully automated it takes very little effort. Exactly what you need early in the morning.

As far as features go then this is a decent machine. Really good that it can be personalised for 4 people. The coffee is pretty good, milk frother is pretty simple to use. However - we had to return twice with same fault, where it says to empty grounds container and drip tray, even though they are empty already. This happened after only a month. Amazon replaced straight away, great service. However, a year later it happens again. This time Amazon took it in for repair, couldn’t fix it and gave a full refund. Needless to say we won’t buy a delonghi again. Going for a Jura this time.

We were worried the integrated milk frother would be a pain to keep clean but the machine rinses it itself and we find it easy enough to switch between oat and cow's milk and then pop the parts in the dishwasher every evening. … I think the temperature is perfect as it never ever tastes burnt but if you like boiling hot coffee/milk it might not be for you.
F*** 4/5 3 February 2026 Amazon Onyx Black
However the coffee grind chute and lower part of the grinder is not easily reachable for proper cleaning; You can only reach it with a brush. … It's an expensive machine but worth it for regular coffee drinkers; Keep an eye out for discounts as price does vary over the year.

The coffee quality and strength adjustment blows my old one out of the water. The highest temperature for example is a LOT hotter than previous models for both milk frothing and coffee. I’ve never had a tepid coffee from this machine.

The milk frothing carafe works very well, producing a perfect cappuccino as far as my wife is concerned (the true test!). … Important final point: If you like very hot coffee, don't buy this machine; even on its hottest setting, it won't do it for you.

I’ve. Been using De Longe coffee machines for over 29 years, and this one is by far the best. Having the milk frother as part of the process is a boon, and produces really good milk/coffee drinks. The interactive display is lovely and very user friendly. I love the coffee and the machine. Flexible, and a treat to use. (I am 82 years old).

After one month's use I can safely say I have no regrets about buying this. The bean adapt feature is an excellent way to get the perfect espresso, and the customisation of drinks is great. The milky drinks may seem less than hot to some, but to me they are an ideal drinking temperature.

F*** 5/5 28 July 2025 Argos EXAM440.55.BG (beige)
I'm loving my Rivelia, the espresso is really good, the only thing I would change is the aroma, the coffee smell doesn't spread like other machines do, maybe the straight design of the machine disperses the coffee smell faster than curved machines, but that's just a detail, the quality of the coffee that this machine extracts is fantastic

The De'Longhi Rivelia is a compact bean-to-cup machine featuring interchangeable bean hoppers and an intuitive colour touchscreen. It delivers consistent milk froth and good-quality espresso with rich crema, matching higher-end De'Longhi models. However, swapping hoppers requires purging around 10g of beans, and pulling out the drip tray can cause the milk carafe to fall if not held in place.
YouTube · Review
The presenter highlights several annoyances with the De'Longhi Rivelia, including a milk carafe prone to spills and splattering, a flat top display that can be awkward to view, and a small 1.4-litre water tank. Additionally, Bean Adapt technology only works on espresso and drink volumes cannot have milk or water adjusted individually. Despite these flaws, he concludes that the machine's positive qualities still outweigh the drawbacks.
YouTube · Review
The De'Longhi Rivelia is an impressive bean-to-cup machine featuring an innovative dual hopper system that makes switching between different coffee beans seamless. It delivers top-tier espresso and superb microfoam texture for milk drinks, though the cold black coffee settings feel pointless and the optional cold froth carafe is costly. Overall, it is highly recommended for anyone seeking convenience, variety, and barista-standard milk texture in a fully automatic machine.
YouTube · Review
The De'Longhi Rivelia is a compact, intuitive bean-to-cup machine featuring an innovative dual-hopper system that allows users to easily swap bean types. It delivers high-quality espresso and milk foam, operating relatively quietly with an easy-to-use touchscreen interface. However, switching between beans that require drastically different grind settings can be problematic, and it lacks cold brew extraction options.
