The Nespresso CitiZ by Krups (XN741B40, silver) is a slim, simple pod machine for Nespresso Original capsules. It brews programmable espresso and lungo, heats up in about 25 seconds and has a 1-litre tank. UK owners rate it highly for ease of use, hot coffee with good crema, and its compact, stylish design. Many buy it to replace an older Nespresso that lasted years. Weak points are minor: only two cup sizes, no milk frother, manual pod ejection and some noise. A few reports mention leaking, often fixed by cleaning or seating the tank properly. It suits anyone who wants quick, fuss-free black coffee in a small space. Milk-drink fans should look at the CitiZ & Milk, and coffee enthusiasts may find the results good rather than great. No independent lab test was found, and long-term durability evidence is anecdotal.

Small kitchens, caravans or second-home use where worktop space is tight

Coffee enthusiasts expecting results comparable to bean-to-cup or traditional espresso machines
A small number of reviews report leaking or dripping. One John Lewis customer reported a new unit that vibrated and sent most of the coffee into the used-pod drawer. An Amazon reviewer's leak stopped after the overdue cleaning.
Users mention minor design niggles: the water tank lid is not hinged, the used-pod tray can spill water when removed, pods are not ejected automatically, and there are only two cup sizes.
Two reviewers who also own more expensive machines say the CitiZ coffee is noticeably weaker than theirs, while still calling it good for occasional use.
Expert Reviews (2020, CitiZ family) lists solid build quality, a small worktop footprint and ease of use as pros, and price, only two drink sizes and no milk option on the base model as cons.
On a mirrored r/nespresso thread, one user threw away a leaking Krups CitiZ with Aeroccino and another still loved theirs after 12 years. Another commenter said leaks can come from a badly seated tank or the rubber gasket under it.

UK buyers mostly describe the CitiZ as a simple, reliable everyday espresso and lungo maker. They praise its ease of use and cleaning, hot coffee with good crema, quick heat-up and compact, stylish look, and often say it is good value. Many are replacing an older Nespresso or Krups machine that lasted years. Complaints are few: isolated reports of leaking or dripping (one new unit faulty, one fixed by cleaning), some noise, an unhinged tank lid and a tray that can spill. Some find the free-pod offer awkward to claim. Owners of pricier machines say the coffee is good rather than great.

Barely used but leaking and noisy most of the coffee missing the cup and showing up in used pod collection definitely something wrong

My original Krupps Pixie finally failed after 15 years. This one has the same operation and so easy mto use. I'm very pleased with it and the supply from Nespresso is excellent too! Well worth it and highly recommended.!

its gets coffee out and it's compact, but side to side comparison with a larger delonghi (thats costs 350) with the same capsule we could all taste the difference. For the occasional use this has been great, but if you use it a lot invest in a bigger one…

Very easy and quick to use. Easy to fill the water. Within seconds i have a delicious coffee with good crema…

Great little coffee maker, bought it to take away in the caravan. Wonderful.

The machine is great and produces a good quality espresso. Like many other reviewers, our old machine began to leak after some years. Beware of the offer for 50 free pods and travel mug. You have to make a purchase of pods (£4.50 min) and sign up…

Bought this in December 2023… Delighted to say it's still going strong despite the fact that I completely failed to remember to clean it for the first two years. It was only after the chamber started leaking too much water into the pod capture tray that I got round to doing that. A food clean and it's been right as rain ever since. Agree with some reviews on here that it's a bit noisy… All in all, a great product that performs exactly as I'd hoped.

This machine is so easy to use no frills and fancies just makes a great cuppa coffee.

This was a Christmas gift for my wife and she loves it… Compact and easy to use, I bought the Nespresso Aeroccino separately… I deliberately chose this model so avoid being locked into Nespresso's technology patent for the Vertuo system… It generates a lovely crema on top and aroma in the kitchen…

I absolutely love it, coffee tastes so good, my only issue is with the tray that collects the used pods always seems to fall out of my hands when I remove it, spilling a little water everywhere…

The coffee machine, made by Krupps is straightforward excellent quality and was a good price on Amazon… The reason I have knocked a star off is because it comes with info stating that there are 100 free pods on registering. This didn't work out for us as it became complicated…

We had the older 'pixie' model for about 5 years… This is an upgrade in so many ways… Noise wise it's a little quieter but definitely vibrates less that our older one…

After many years my Nespresso machine began to leak. Choose the silver option, matches my kitchen perfectly. Its very stylish and so easy to use. It's slightly bigger than my older model but so much quieter. I also get more coffee in my cup…

I got this as an upgrade from a dolce gusto, and it's been fantastic so far. It looks really sleek, it heats up quickly, you can even program it to pour the exact amount of coffee you want… lovely strong hot coffee.

Get home from walking the dog, 'it's coffee time'. My old machine developed a leak in the pump area … This new one is quieter and does the job effortlessly… I very rarely give out excellent marks.

This compact coffee making system works well enough … If like me, it's a back-up system to a professional machine and grinder, then the results you get will taste - well, okay and no better… Nevertheless, I am amazed at just how good this tiny machine is…

very happy with this coffee machine, doesn't take up too much work surface space and simple to use. Only minor problem is that the lid of the water tank is not hinged so I have to remember to hold it when refilling.
B***4/525 October 2019John Lewis
I bought the silver one - looks nice and stylish. It's different to the 'U' model I had before as there's no automatic engagement or release of the capsule…
M***5/529 September 2019John Lewis
Really positive action on the loading lever … The water tank is a nice simple shape which is easy to clean and easy to detach. The chrome parts of the drip trays are actually metal (not cheap plastic…) Doesn't give annoying beeps… Like it.
