The Tassimo Joy is Bosch's simple, entry-level T DISC pod machine. It has 1300 W, a large 1.4 l rear water tank, an included BRITA filter, and makes drinks with one button by reading each pod's barcode. UK owners mainly praise how easy it is to use, the hot, consistent drinks, the large tank and the compact size. Many are replacing an older Tassimo and see it as an upgrade. The trade-offs are lock-in to Tassimo pods, which some find expensive, no milk frother or hot-water option, a stiff lid, and pod-seal mess for some owners. A few reports describe leaks or early faults. It suits households that want quick, varied pod drinks with minimal effort. It is less suitable for anyone who wants control over strength, temperature or volume, or freshly frothed milk. Independent lab testing and long-term reliability data were not found.

What the features mean in everyday use.
1300 W pod machine with a 1.4 l removable water tank, measuring 289 x 230 x 333 mm and weighing 3.4 kg.
Works only with Tassimo T DISC pods. It reads each disc's barcode (Intellibrew) to set the drink, and Bosch claims up to 50 drinks from brands such as L'OR, Kenco and Costa, with no heat-up time.
Comes with a BRITA water filter. It has a T DISC-based descaling and cleaning programme with a descaling indicator, and its drip plate, outlet, piercing unit and disc holder are dishwasher safe.
There is no milk frother. Milk drinks use milk T DISCs. Argos Q&A answers say the machine has no hot-water option and cannot make iced coffee.
Ease of use and simple set-up is the most common praise in reviews at Amazon, Argos and John Lewis. Several owners say barcode reading removes the drink-selection fiddle of older Tassimo machines.
Many reviewers say drinks are hot, quick and consistent and the coffee is good. One owner found the coffee less creamy than Dolce Gusto and switched back.
Owners like the large tank and the included water filter. However, the tank sits at the back, and two reviewers found it awkward to reach on a crowded worktop.
Reviewers describe the machine as compact and neat on the worktop. One keeps it in a caravan.
A minority of reviewers say T DISC pods and replacement filter cartridges are expensive. One buyer returned the machine after checking pod prices, and one notes that a large cup needs two pods.
Some owners report a stiff lid that needs a firm press. Others say the pod seal lets milk or coffee residue escape, so the holder must be wiped after use.
A few low-rated reviews describe faults. These include water leaking onto the worktop, short measures with a false 'refill water' light, and a previous identical unit that lasted about four months. Other reviewers say earlier Tassimo machines lasted 7 to 15 years. The sample is too small to judge failure rates.
Several reviewers say the picture-only instructions are unclear. One says they do not mention fitting the float in the water tank.
A notable share of reviewers bought the Joy to replace an older Tassimo. Most say it feels like an upgrade.
On 2026-10-29 the machine cost £59.99 at Amazon.co.uk and Bosch UK, £60.00 at Argos and £69.99 at Waitrose. John Lewis lists it as no longer available. An Argos reviewer says the price fell to £39 the day after they bought it, which suggests frequent promotions.
Frontum's spec-based aggregator, which is not a lab test, notes a mostly plastic body, plastic pod waste and lock-in to proprietary Tassimo pods.
One John Lewis reviewer reported that the tank held only about 0.5 l despite the 1.4 l spec. No other reviewer read reported this, and several praise the large tank.

UK owners mostly describe the Joy as an easy, no-fuss pod machine. They say it is quick to set up, reads pods by barcode so there is nothing to select, and makes hot, consistent drinks. The large rear tank and included water filter are well liked, as is the compact footprint, and many buyers are replacing an older Tassimo and see it as an upgrade. The complaints are less common. Pods and filter cartridges are seen as expensive, and a large mug can take two pods. The lid can be stiff, and the pod seal sometimes leaves milk or coffee residue to wipe away. The picture-only instructions confuse some people. A handful report faults such as leaks, short measures with a false refill light, or an early failure. One owner preferred the creamier Dolce Gusto coffee.

Constantly gives short measures and the red water fill light comes on despite having plenty of water in the tank. This machine was bought to replace the exact same model that lasted around 4 months. Clearly something wrong with the design of this particular model

Brought as a present. Used everyday more than once. She loves it.

I wanted to love this machine. I've always used Dolce Gusto coffees but the machines didn't last due to hard water issues. This machine is great, cleans itself, is a lot sturdier, great quality. But I don't like the coffee as much. It's just not as creamy and the pods are more expensive, although I loved that they drain well and there was a filter in the jug. But I ended up switching back to Dolce Gusto because the coffee is just nicer.

Smart machine i didn't realise that their was a water filter on it which clarifies the water and a very nice machine and to change the water the jug is so easy to do, no fiddling. Thank you. Definitely value for money.

I have wanted to buy a coffee machine for a while, so I decided to take the plunge and purchased the Tassimo joy. I am so glad I did! It is easy to set up and it doesn't take up to much space. … The lid is stiff so you have press it down hard to close. … The only downside is you have to use two lots of pods to make a large cup. Overall I am very happy with the with my purchase and the price i paid.

Purchased this for my own use. Easy to setup and reads the various Tassimo pods with no failures. … There is no warning when the digital scale reaches 0… The reason I purchased this for myself was the larger water tank to allow guests to have coffee's without having to stop and fill the tank… Fully recommend this Tassimo machine as its the only one I have running and it works perfectly to produce coffee, lattes and flat whites with no failures.

OK, our faithful old Bosch Tassimo from around 2018 popped its clogs so, I had to replace it. … Pod Mechanism requires a firm press to close… The area for cups narrows at the base, so large cups only fit when the drainer stand is fitted… The Water Tank goes in and out better than on the old Tassimo, albeit it is at the rear… The bigger Water Tank is definitely a huge improvement.

We bought this model as it was a direct replacement for our 15 year old tassimo which did a great job.
L*** 5/5 2 October 2026 Argos
I had a tassimo years ago which was a faff when making drinks. This one reads the barcodes on the pods so no need for the selection lever that was on my old machine. Drinks are lovely and hot. I would definitely recommend 👌

Really pleased with this coffee machine. It's very easy to use, heats up quickly and makes a good cup of coffee with very little fuss. There's a great choice of Tassimo pods available, and the machine is easy to clean. It also looks smart in black and doesn't take up too much space on the worktop. Good value for money and ideal for everyday use.

Compact and delivers consistant drinks at the right temperature. One of the best birthday presents I ever received.

It's an easy machine to use once you complete the initial cleaning and set up process. The instructions are all pictures and a few written instructions would have been helpful too. Now that it's up and running it makes a really nice cup of coffee quickly. The water filter definitely improves the smoothness and flavour. It's easy to clean. Accessing the water tank at the back can be a little awkward depending on how much space you have on your worktop. Overall a very good coffee maker, hope it lasts longer than its predecessor - a Style Pod.
R*** 5/5 14 September 2026 Argos
Bought as a replacement for an older machine, this feels much more classy! Smooth engagement of the locking mechanism when the pods are inserted and it doesn't take long to produce your drink. Small enough to keep in our caravan for holiday use…

This is my second one, the last one lasted 7 years, I loved it, so I had to have the same again.

Brought this coffee machine (my 1st one) for delivery which was great and efficient. Easy to set up, with-in 30 minutes I drinking a hot Americano. Very happy with the purchase so far.

Very good simple to use … Water filters cartridges little bit pricey
G*** 3/5 28 June 2025 John Lewis
This was bought as a replacement for an old favourite. Sent back as seal around pod and cutter not good and milk and coffee product had to be wiped clean after every use!

It's nothing to do with John Lewis but machine is rubbish
K*** 5/5 28 October 2024 John Lewis
I chose John Lewis as the price was very competitive … I chose the "Joy" coffee machine as it is an upgrade from my old machine. I would thoroughly recommend this as it makes a great cup of coffee, with creaminess and froth.

I was thinking of replacing my old coffee maker when this popped up as a great Black Friday deal. I made an impulse purchase … it wasn't until then that I'd researched how much the pads were. On that basis I returned the item via the local garden centre-can't complain about the accessibility JL offers.
D*** 1/5 12 May 2023 John Lewis
Will be returning this Tassimo coffee machine as it leaks puddles of water over the worktop
L*** 4/5 21 July 2023 John Lewis
Great machine, it's actually my 2nd Tassimo only annoyance was the instructions, no where did it mention the float that needs fitting in the water holder. If I hadn't got my old machine to check I would have taken this item back to JL for a refund … Hence 4 stars.
L*** 1/5 7 April 2022 John Lewis
I bought a Tassimo Joy this morning because the box described it as 1.4L. Opened box open on return and water tank is 0.5L max. Is this right? … Is this an example of false advertising? …
