The CitiZ Platinum (EN220) is a slim, metal-finish Nespresso Original capsule machine. Compared with the older CitiZ, it adds Americano and Americano XL buttons, a hot-water function, programmable volumes and a descaling alert. It has no milk frother. UK owners praise its looks, simple operation, easy cleaning, sturdy build and the wide choice of compatible Original pods. The main recurring complaint is that some find the coffee not hot enough. It suits people who want a compact, good-looking pod machine for black coffee in several sizes. Those who want milk drinks from a single machine should look at the CitiZ & Milk versions. No independent UK lab test was found, so long-term reliability is known only from owner reports.
Before you buy
What the features mean in everyday use.
The CitiZ Platinum is a Nespresso Original capsule machine with manual capsule insertion and no milk system. A separate Aeroccino frother is needed for milk drinks.
It brews four cup sizes (Espresso, Lungo, Americano, Americano XL) plus hot water, with programmable volumes from 20 to 300 ml. One De'Longhi description paragraph still says '2 coffee sizes'.
The manufacturer states a 25-second heat-up and a pump of up to 19 bar.
It has a 1 l removable water tank and a used-capsule container for 12-14 capsules (12 per Nespresso UK).
The machine is 13 cm wide, 38.9 cm deep and about 27.4-27.7 cm high, and weighs about 3.9-4 kg.
It switches off automatically after 9 minutes of inactivity and has a descaling alert based on programmed water hardness.
It is rated 1260 W, has a metal-and-plastic body, is operated by buttons and has no display.
UK buyers most often praise the look: sleek, classy, chrome or platinum finish.
Many buyers say it is simple to use and quick to clean.
Buyers value the extra buttons for larger drinks, the Americano option and hot water, especially those replacing a two-button Nespresso machine.
Two low-rated reviews say the coffee comes out lukewarm or cools quickly. A third reviewer advises warming the mug first.
One buyer found the power lead too short to reach their socket. John Lewis lists an 85 cm cable.
Several owners describe it as sturdy and better made than earlier plastic Nespresso machines. A few say it is quieter than their previous machine.
Buyers like that the machine takes the wide range of Original-compatible pods from Nespresso and supermarkets, and many say it makes good coffee.
In the UK the EN220.M is sold by De'Longhi and, as an exclusive, by John Lewis. The Titan colour is sold by Nespresso UK. Currys and Argos do not list it, and Amazon.co.uk had no featured offer.
No independent UK lab test of the EN220 was found. Which? has tested only the CitiZ & Milk Platinum EN330.M, so long-term reliability rests on user reports alone.
De'Longhi UK and John Lewis both include a 2-year guarantee.

UK owners mainly buy the CitiZ Platinum for its looks and simplicity. They describe a sleek, solid metal-finish machine that is easy to use and clean, and fits small kitchens and even motorhomes. Owners upgrading from older two-button Nespresso machines value the larger cup sizes, the Americano button and the hot-water function, and several find it quieter and better built. Buyers also like the wide range of compatible Original pods from supermarkets. The main complaint is temperature: a few owners say coffee comes out lukewarm or cools quickly, and one advises pre-warming the mug. One owner found the power lead too short.

We have had just two citiz machines since 2010. The first one lasted 12 years and the second 4 years (but with heavier use). … It seems neater and more robust than our last machine and has 5 buttons rather than two. I really like the ability to make Americano coffee and to just have hot water. It is much quieter than our last citiz which actually sounded like a jet engine! …

What I particularly liked about this machine over some others was the extra buttons for larger cup sizes without having to top it up with water. The hot water button is a nice extra. … Overall I have found the machine to be reliable and consistent with all the various pods. Can't fault it on looks either! In fact difficult to find any fault with it so far.
S*** 5/5 23 May 2026 John Lewis
First off this is a really classy looking machine. It is simple to use and, providing you warm your mug first, produces hot coffee. Arrived really quickly and had no trouble getting the offer once received.
W*** 5/5 16 May 2026 John Lewis
Very happy with my new Nespresso Coffee machine which I purchased to replace a similar one which I had for many years. This one has a larger capacity but is very streamlined. Makes a lovely, hot coffee.
B*** 4/5 12 April 2026 John Lewis
This is a great, stylish and compact Nespresso machine that makes perfect coffee but the power lead at 80cm is too short to reach the plug socket. Otherwise great.
G*** 5/5 7 March 2026 John Lewis
Quality item-small footprint, neat and compact. Compatible with several brands of pods.
A*** 5/5 20 December 2025 John Lewis
I give the CitiZ Platinum Coffee Pod Machine by De'Longhi a full 5 stars! It's a truly great coffee machine that makes excellent coffee quickly and easily. I particularly appreciate the versatile volume settings which allow for the perfect cup every time, and the useful Americano option is a brilliant addition for those who prefer a longer drink. Highly recommended!
J*** 1/5 9 November 2025 John Lewis
It looks nice, but the coffee doesn't get hot, and is cold fairly quickly.
R*** 4/5 4 October 2025 John Lewis
Easy to use. The different settings are useful. Sleek design - I like it
S*** 1/5 7 September 2025 John Lewis
I recently purchased a Nespresso machine and while I appreciate the sleek design and ease of use, I've noticed a consistent issue: the water does not get hot enough. The coffee comes out lukewarm, even when I preheat my cup, which takes away from the overall experience. … Could you please advise if there's a way to adjust the brewing temperature or if this may be a fault with my unit
P*** 5/5 26 August 2025 John Lewis
Easy clear instructions. Quick to clean. Coffee size options to suit everyone. Good size for motorhome use.
S*** 5/5 24 August 2025 John Lewis
Great machine - looks great and so easy to use. Massive range of capsules from different outlets (unlike larger pods). Relatively quiet in operation as well.
G*** M*** 5/5 21 August 2025 John Lewis
Very nice looking machine in the platinum edition easy to operate 4 different cup sizes takes little space up in the kitchen plenty pods from different coffee manufacturers for this machine makes the coffee very quickly easy to maintain and clean
n*** 5/5 26 April 2025 John Lewis
This is hands down the best Nespresso Classic Machine available currently. … The chrome body looks captivating and feels quite sturdy. I found it quite compact compared to other machines available. … I only wish if they would have made it available with Aeroccino 4.
N*** l*** 5/5 7 September 2025 John Lewis
These machines are amazing , I fell in love with them when I got to stay in a posh hotel ! They are well made easy to use and clean, the pods are around 50p a drink which is cheaper than the larger pod machines ,
